6 extra Economy seats made via changes to the galley and lavatory space.
Probably like what QF did with the 717 refresh, pull 1 lav out!

Hooray for Qantas!
Hopefully they replace those foul looking, grey-coloured side panels which were delivered on the ex-American ordered planes! :p

An inexpensive upgrade for QF to keep customers happy on the entertainment front. Good job QF!

Highly doubt this would occur as this would leave one lavatory for 162 economy pax. My guess is that the lavatory would be moved back slightly and take up the current galley space located immediately behind.

They are using "Slimline" toilets, the galleys could be reduced in size slightly but no a lot because the carts are a tight fit length wise as it is.

1st August 2014, 12:17 AM
Apparently the entire B73H fleet will be getting new style seat covers, curtains etc.
Jacob L
1st August 2014, 08:13 AM
Thank God,
Hopefully QF does a good job with it. I personally like the in seat back screens. :D Hope its much like VA's, nice & colourful on the inside

The upgrade won't feature AVOD in every seat. The older 737s without AVOD will receive Q Streaming but iPads won't be supplied. Passengers will have to use their own device.

5th August 2015, 11:42 AM
Any idea when this is due to start??
Mackenzie Davis
9th August 2015, 03:54 PM
VH-VXR is apparently the first to have the re-config. done. Was in hangar 2 @ Brisbane this morning.
Christopher Campbell
9th August 2015, 04:24 PM
finally, how long do you think each one will take to be done?
Mackenzie Davis
9th August 2015, 04:57 PM
They plan to do the whole fleet in 1 year... Don't know how many they will do at a time or if they are doing them individually
Zac M
9th August 2015, 08:17 PM
Sourced from a Facebook group, it will take 14 days however this will be ramped up to 12 days, 40 aircraft to be done in Sydney remaining to be done in Brisbane.

Here's an AA article published yesterday with a pic of the new seats:
http://australianaviation.com.au/2015/08/qantas-begins-adding-extra-seats-to-737-fleet/
Looking at the last image, it seems the Y seats are being re-upholstered to the charcoal/black theme we saw on the refurbished 767's. The J class "Millennium Seats" are getting a similar purple theme as the refurbished A332 domestic Y seats but are now leather rather than cloth.

VH-VXR returned to service yesterday as the first refurbished 737-838 as 12/162 configuration.
Christopher Campbell

Has Sydney maintenance started work on refurbishing any B737s? The second VH-VXB is being refurbished in Brisbane from the 25th August.
MarkR
22nd September 2015, 07:53 PM
Flew VXM tonight, should be called Harry half a job, got the new seats and IFE but no extra row or slimline toilets
Christopher Campbell
23rd September 2015, 06:10 AM
What are the new seats like?
MarkR
23rd September 2015, 06:29 AM
Same seats as the BSI models with power, and video screens.
Zac M
23rd September 2015, 08:03 AM
Was it VZM? VZL-S were delivered with new seats and entertainment but no BSi. The only aircraft to undergo any modifications under this reconfig program so far are VXR and VXQ
Rowan McKeever
23rd September 2015, 08:15 AM
Yeah, I didn't think the refit included screens & in-seat power either? Zac is VXQ done or still going?
Dave C
23rd September 2015, 08:22 AM
It was definitely not VXM.
Wrong again. It was either XZM or VZM. Both of those have the interior you describe.
Zac M
23rd September 2015, 01:14 PM
VXQ is still in. There may be others getting done, however the seatmap on the QF website has VXQ and R listed against the 12/162 config
MarkR
23rd September 2015, 01:57 PM
it was VZM my apologies, crew must have misread the plate. I was on my second J flight from DRW do maybe I misheard as well.
Christopher Campbell

VH-VXB is refurbished. QF6113 today
Rowan McKeever
23rd September 2015, 09:26 PM
According to flightaware & FR24 VXQ returned to service today having entered BNE mx on 7 Sept. So in theory that makes 3...???
Zac M
23rd September 2015, 10:15 PM
Going by the fact it isn't on the seatmap online and VXQ is, I'm gonna say that VXB has not been reconfigured.
Rowan McKeever
23rd September 2015, 10:41 PM
VXB also had a test flight (QF6113) which VXQ didn't (straight back to revenue service). Suggests 'general' mx for VXB... I'm with Zac.
MarkR

VXB is not refurbished going by my bosses experience on her yesterday morning.
Fred C
26th September 2015, 01:17 PM
As said previously VXQ and VXR only done.
Sydney will start its first on around the 5th October.
Rowan McKeever
26th September 2015, 03:32 PM
Is there one currently underway in BNE? I see XZJ hasn't flown since arriving from ISA on Wednesday night but assume that's just general mx?
Christopher Campbell
13th October 2015, 01:43 PM
Have any more 737s been refitted other the VXB and VXR? Or are there are any being refitted currently?
Zac M
13th October 2015, 02:19 PM
As previously stated in this thread, VXB was not fitted, VXQ was. It does appear that VZB is the first aircraft to have the refit done in Sydney.
Rowan McKeever
13th October 2015, 02:26 PM
VXB has not been refurbished. However VXQ has so, together with VXR, there are currently two completed.
Per Fred's post above, there should be one currently underway in SYD and there may also be one underway in BNE.
I notice from flightaware VYK has been out of service at BNE since 7 Oct & VZE since 23 Sept.
VZB has been out of service at SYD since 5 Oct.
Christopher Campbell
13th October 2015, 03:01 PM

VZE (23rd September, Brisbane)

25th October 2015, 04:06 PM
sorry yeah i meant VXR
Was on QF529 today operated by VXR. The refurbed seats being in all black fabric were a bit of a shock to the yes from the usual patterned fabrics. Curtains are gone and replaced with short hanging clouded patterned plastic divider. Not bad refurb look.
Christopher Campbell
27th October 2015, 07:14 PM
Is this refurbishment for the interiors also for Qantas to repaint the B737s that are still in the 1984 livery the Qantas New Roo Livery?
Zac M
27th October 2015, 08:35 PM
Interior refurbishment has no connection to the exterior paint job as discussed in the A330 thread, any painting of the exterior is purely coincidental
Rowan McKeever
27th October 2015, 08:43 PM
Of the 2 that have the refurb, VXR was already in the new 'Roo and VXQ is still not. So yeah, what Zac said. Different contracts & timelines [emoji5]

Is this refurbishment for the interiors also for Qantas to repaint the B737s that are still in the 1984 livery the Qantas New Roo Livery?
Actually none are in the 1984 livery. There was a minor change before the new Roo which was the removal of the gold stripe between the tail and fuselage. The change was about as minor as changing the roo shape on the tail.
Michael Morrison
28th October 2015, 05:25 AM
I wonder if it's the same style toilets that are on KLMs newer 737's.
Ie no recline in the last row as the recline space is taken up by the loo to provide more elbow room if sitting down. The toilet wall narrow as it gets higher and it has a weird flimsy door that is hard to lock - which results in people thinking the door is locked but it's not!

VZE back in serivce QF511 BNE-SYD on 30/10.

Christopher Campbell
30th October 2015, 03:26 PM
May I ask because I am quite new to this. Where do you find what config it is? And how can you find what aircraft are doing what routes the next day or days?
Max C
30th October 2015, 04:26 PM
Most of it is via internal channels unfortunately.
Rego's will change quite frequently (especially domestically) so there's usually no point advertising when a particular aircraft enters service or returns from maintenance until it actually happens.
Christopher Campbell
30th October 2015, 05:40 PM
Ok, thanks for info I'll keep that in mind. What do you mean internal channels?
Rowan McKeever
30th October 2015, 09:14 PM
He means it's usually people with access to the computer systems of the airline in question or one of the airports which have information about aircraft operating specific flights.
For the rest of us you can try using flightaware etc but you're limited to the reliability of their information & your own interpretation.

When should VXC's refurbishment be completed?
Zac M

Zac M

Looks like VZD

25th November 2015, 06:09 PM

According to the online Seat maps the following are now complete:
VXC, Q, R, VYB, G, H, J, VZB, D, E
VXT appears to be getting done in Sydney, whilst VXD is in heavy maintenance along with VZV (and possibly others) in BNE so these may be done when they come out.

VXD should have it, skeptical as to whether VZV will.
VXT re-entered service last week, haven't checked but I assume that will be it until after the christmas/new year period.
EDIT: The online seat map found here (https://www.qantas.com/travel/airlines/aircraft-seat-map-boeing-738/global/en) has been updated to include VXD in the reconfig list however VZV is not included so safe to assume VZV is not done.

Thank you for the pics!
The funny thing is I flew on a Qantas 738 to Hamilton Island a few days ago - it was VH-VXC - I kept looking at the overhead bins wondering why the aircraft had a sky interior feel about it - so that explains the modern spacious feel VXC had. Very nice aircraft and considering it's age of 14.
Thanks again.

I flew on VH-VXE on the 4th (first flight back in service) and it had a faulty auto-throttle system causing the flight to return to the gate after taxiing out. It was about 1hr late departing Brisbane after engineers came on board and physically disconnected it.

Hey guys, I like the idea of having a list to keep track of aircraft that have had/or are in for the refurb. But may I suggest only posting an updated list once a month? In the space of a week the list has been updated and reposted 4 times with minimal changes and its just clogging the thread up.
Cheers

Came across from NZ on a refurb Jet Connect B737 on Sat 17th. Cabin crew said it was one of two that have been refurbed. Very pleasing appearance. Economy seat quite comfortable but still a tight squeeze between rows. Luckily I had an empty seat next to me. The seats "appear" to be of a lighter construction. Business class seats similarly are less bulky. Big difference in the cabin was the lack of curtain between Business and Economy and has been replaced by a plastic bulkhead that comes down to about head height when seated. I tried a seat in Row 4 immediately behind Business and found that while it had more leg room there are fixed armrests between each seat resulting in less wriggle room.
For me, it's back to the EK A380 for SYD-AKL unless my NZ appointments dictate a different timing.

So it appears that the reconfig program is very close to a close, XZB exited her reconfig today with XZC now in the hanger in BNE and VZS in SYD, this leaves VXM as the only VH registered a/c still with 12J/156Y config. It would appear ZK-ZQA is getting her reconfig leaving ZQG and H as the remaining JetConnect a/c to be done. I would question whether VXM will be done (maybe plans to leave the fleet??) as it is the only remaining VX series to be in original paint scheme and is obviously in original config despite having only main screen entertainment.
XZB also exited the hanger featuring a WiFi satellite, this will be used in an initial trail before I assume roll out to the entire fleet, I was looking for the WiFi thread which I thought existed but it seems not...

Qantas finishes wifi installation on trial Boeing 737
Qantas has completed the installation of internet wifi equipment on board a Boeing 737-800 ahead of customers being able to use the service “early next year”.
The 737-800, VH-XZB, was fitted with a satellite antenna, multiple wireless access points in the cabin and other hardware at Qantas’s Brisbane engineering base. The airline said it took 10 engineers about 900 man hours, or 12 working days, to complete the task, with flight tracking websites showing the aircraft was on the ground between October 16 and November 9.
During that time, it was understood VH-XZB also had an extra row of economy class seats added as part of a reconfiguration of Qantas’s 737 fleet.
While the aircraft has returned to service, it will fly with the wifi turned off for passengers “for a few months”, as it conducts further ground and inflight tests with its technology parter ViaSat.
The wifi system was expected to be turned on for customers “early next year”, Qantas said on Tuesday.
“Putting wifi on board the aircraft has been an extraordinary task for the team,” Qantas head of customer experience Phil Capps said in a statement.
“It requires a significant amount of testing to ensure that, first and foremost, the safety of the installation meets Qantas’ stringent standards, as well as ensuring the system will deliver the level of performance we expect at this stage of the trial.
“While we know that customers will want to connect to the wifi, we really do appreciate their patience while we go through our final testing process. We’re just as excited as them to roll this out.”
