At about 16:20, today(19/10/15) saw a big delta wing 4 engine a/c approaching YBBN 01. Could not determine what it was. Looked on the logs for flight radar 24 and could see no details. I thought it might have been the Russian heavy lifter, but looked too small for it??

Rowan McKeever 19th October 2015 05:21 PM

David C 19th October 2015 05:53 PM

Spot on David. My first thought from the distance was an AN 225, but as it got closer, looked same family, but smaller.

QF12 diverted to Brisbane

QF12 diverted to Brisbane this morning. Anybody know why?

https://flightaware.com/live/flight/QFA12

Grahame Hutchison 17th January 2016 12:59 PM

Splash and dash apparently - strong headwinds at the moment (maybe a crew change required as well)

Simon Hoby 17th January 2016 03:27 PM

Thanks for that.

VH-OQF just went over my house as QF6007 so that will be it. I wonder if they had already put PAX onto domestic flights or made them wait until now?

james baker 17th January 2016 03:29 PM

All,

A fuel pick up problem (mechanical) was the cause for the diversion. A/C is currently (16.28 AEDT) climbing out of BNE as QF6007. Not sure if she has the passengers on board or not.

James

Tony Chatham 17th January 2016 04:37 PM

With a flight number in that range, you can be sure it's non-revenue. That is, nil passengers.

Max C 17th January 2016 06:49 PM

Nil pax. EBL was sent up from SYD to pick up as many pax as possible as QF7912. The rest were moved onto other flights

2 new International Airlines planning BNE flights.D7 and QR.

Also speaking on the Australia international aviation outlook panel, AirAsia X head of commercial Arik De said that China is one of its core source markets for Australia. AirAsia X’s Australia traffic now consists of more inbound passengers than outbound, due to rapid growth from China, India, Indonesia and Vietnam.

“People in places like Delhi and Ho Chi Minh City see Australia and New Zealand as aspirational so we see great appetite,” Mr De said. “There’s people growing up with an aspiration to see Australia, and that’s exciting for us.”

Mr De said that AirAsia X plans to pursue further expansion in Australia, including launching service to Brisbane Airport. Mr De explained: “Brisbane is a cornerstone of our plans,” he said. “It’s on the list.”

Qatar launched services to Adelaide and Sydney in 1H2016 and also serves Melbourne and Perth. In a keynote address Qatar Airways senior VP aeropolitical and corporate affairs Fathi Atti said the airline will also launch to Brisbane if it can secure the traffic rights.

“One of the reasons why I’m here [in Brisbane] is my airline wants to be here and we will. That’s a promise”, he said.

Mr Atti said Qatar’s future in Australia is “fully dependent on how much we can grow here according to the bilateral.” He added that the only place Qatar Airways is not growing globally is Australia, “but not by lack of desire”.

Both announcements at the CPA summit in BNE last week.

Work commences in the next 2 weeks on both the Northern International apron expansion as well as the northern concourse expansion.2 new MARS gates will be joined to this concourse whilst on the western side of the concourse 4 new stand off walk on Bays will be introduced.MARS gates can accommodate 2 CODE F or 4 CODE C aircraft.

So basically BAYS 69-71 will be introduced on the western side of the concourse catering for 1 CODE F and 2 CODE E or 2 CODE C and 2 CODE E.

Gates 74 b,74A and 73B,73A will be the MARS gates attached to the eastern side of the new concourse. These will be dual aerobridge gates.

The ITB will then be able to handle 19 CODE F and E wide bodied aircraft or up to 26 aircraft if no CODE F aircraft are on the deck at the time.
