After being on the ground at Auckland Airport for six months because of the Rolls Royce Trent 1000 Package C engine problems, Air New Zealand Boeing B789 Dreamliner ZK-NZE was back in the air again this morning, operating its first commercial service since 04DEC17 (AKL-SYD). The aircraft did a short Auckland-Auckland test flight yesterday, and following the Sydney service today, is now on its way to Houston as ANZ28.

There was still plenty of rain at Sydney Airport again today, with reverse thrust on a wet Runway 16R creating some spectacular blasts of water spray. Qantas QF108 from Beijing, and Vietnam Airlines VN787 from Hanoi, both put on a great show.

Ongoing Rolls Royce Trent 1000 Package C engine problems on Scoot B789 Dreamliners, has forced the airline to substitute a leased Singapore Airlines Boeing B772 on their SIN-SYD service from 06JUN18 to 30JUN18. Today's Scoot TR2/TR3 service at Sydney Airport was operated by 9V-SVJ as SQ8121/SQ8122.

The A350 prototype visit to NZ as noted in the other thread was for runway performance testing at Wellington.

Lloyd - thanks here as well as on that other forum. It's greatseeing your pics wherever you post them, and you sure had a greatguide in Grahame.
Was there any word on why JAL sent 788 rather than 789? |
Hi Kent thanks for that.Love Sydney for aircraft photography and so many internationals to photograph. Also think the revamped Shep's mound is wonderful.
No idea re JAL sorry but i think the boys said they have sent a 788 in before? Let's hope you guys get even more carriers as i believe Bangladesh,Pakistan,Nepal and Iran Air are all seriously looking at SYD.I'd come down for those. Cheers then Lloyd.:) |
Great to see you and Bob in Sydney last week Lloyd, and it looks like you managed to catch most of the aircraft you were after.
Kent, Japan Airlines Dreamliners use the GEnx engine, so are not affected by the RR Trent 1000 problems, like LATAM, Air New Zealand and Scoot are. I think the JAL swap from from the B789 to the B788 is only from 6th June until the end of the month (back to a B789 on 30th June) by the looks of things. Maybe a couple of the B789s are in for maintenance. |
