QF8

Looking at FR24 and it shows QF8 on its way to YBBN rather than YSSY. I will be on QF8 in October, so hope it does this on my flight as saves me using QF508 from YSSY to YBBN.

Alex T 28th August 2014 11:53 PM

QF8 always drops by Brissie for a fuel stop, though from next month QF7/8 will be operated by an A380 direct both ways without having to stop at Brissie: http://yssyforum.net/board/showthrea...ht=A380+Dallas

Geoff Br 29th August 2014 12:08 AM

OK, I live on short final for YBBN 01. That must be the sod who who blasts over my place between 4 and 5 some mornings. The 380, with more range will not have those issues.

Mick F 30th August 2014 08:10 PM

QF8 doesn't land that early.

Shaal L 30th August 2014 08:47 PM

does come in early . scheduled arr time 5.00

Mick F 31st August 2014 10:16 PM

My apologies Shaal. I flew on it in December and thought we landed much later than that. Perhaps there was a schedule change?

Cheers

Mick

^I think during summer months, daylight savings pushes some QF International flight times by one hour or so.

You probably landed at Brissie around 6-6:30am, after a short turnaround the flight leaves for Syd around 7:40am for an arrival into Syd at 9:30am. :)

David O. 1st September 2014 09:05 AM

Just wondering, will it be the same crew operating from BNE-SYD, or is there a crew change for the short hop?

Alex Lui 1st September 2014 09:09 AM

It would be a different crew. The crew that does Dallas to Brisbane would have reached their hours by the time they reach Brisbane so there is a crew change for the short hop to Sydney.

Adam.S 23rd September 2014 12:55 PM

This being the last week of flights for QF8; will result in the last time a B747 will operate domestically in Australia (to the best of my knowledge).

I don't expect so, however is there any chance the airline will in some way mark this occasion for the final QF8 flight BNE-SYD on Tuesday September 30th?
Other then 'bragging rights', a small memento of sorts for passengers would be nice to help celebrate the historical event.

Admittedly it is probably only aviation enthusiasts and not the airline who will acknowledge the occasion.

Zac M 23rd September 2014 02:27 PM

If it took a few in the know ground staff and a pro-active duty manager in Canberra to organise celebrations for the last 734 flight I can almost assure you the answer will be no, I would like to be proven wrong though!

Yusef D 23rd September 2014 05:19 PM

Too early to call this the end of 747 domestics. The new MEL-LAX may involve tag sectors.

Adam.S 23rd September 2014 07:55 PM

Thanks Zac M; yes in this day and age of profit-seeking and cost-cutting I don't expect or blame the airline if there is no acknowledgement of the event if it does indeed turn out to be the end of 747s operating on domestic flights.
It would be a nice gesture though.

Thanks for your reply Yusef D. Interesting. I have been out of the aviation 'news loop' for a little while as of late, so your news is 'new' to me.
Is it possible to elaborate further?

Yusef D 23rd September 2014 09:11 PM

I only mean that domestic 'tag' sectors are incidental to a long haul schedule, and will occur from time to time to fill in gaps in capacity and capability. Airlines would prefer not to need to run them but it's not a perfect world, so it makes sense to run short less efficient flights, especially when introducing or gradually removing from service a type. Just like the current MEL-SYD JQ 787 flights.

Adam.S 24th September 2014 10:53 PM

^ I see, thanks for your response.

Jason Carruthers 28th September 2014 09:06 PM

It looks like "Parkes" (or VH-OEG) has the honours of doing the last 744 operated QF7/8 rotation. Currently enroute to Dallas as QF7. Will turn around and do the last DFW-BNE-SYD trip arriving in Australia Tuesday morning.

OEG took me on a farewell QF8 BNE-SYD trip Saturday before last.

Bradley Porter 28th September 2014 10:57 PM

Yep OEG left on the 7 with 177 Tonne of Fuel.

I had the honours of doing the last fuelling.

Stuart Trevena 29th September 2014 11:50 AM

Hi All,

Do we know which A380 has the honour od doing the First QF7/8 Direct return Today?

Stuart

Alex T 29th September 2014 11:57 AM

Looks like it's VH-OQL

Thanks for sharing the video.
Perhaps a nice piece of history there, good to have record of the occasion.

QF8 inaugural A380 from Dallas arrived this morning to a water cannon salute from the ARFF.

Some pics from my QF8 experience.

Flew up to BNE on QF556 the previous night and hung out around the airport until morning. Decided to indulge and experience Business class for the first time and was very impressed, albeit for a short time.

Highlight was heading up to the flight deck at the end of the trip. Awesome morning for an avgeek :)

Nothing high quality as these are either from my phone or screencaptured from the video camera. But it was good to be there.

Inaugural DFW-SYD was 16 hours 34 minutes

Stuart Trevena 3rd October 2014 01:49 PM

Hi All,

Anyone know what Fuel was loaded at DFW and what was left over, once it landed and Parked?

Was it close to entering that Reserve Fuel stage?

Stuart

I'll hazard a guess that not one more drop would have fitted in ;)

According to the " Qantas Source " site it had a fuel pump issue and special dispensation was granted for a after 11pm arrival back at SYD ..

9 hour 28 minute flight to no-where!

I guess still quicker than going to Nadi and waiting for parts, replacement crew etc
