Sydney Airport Spotting Weekends (circa 2000's) - Video Footage and Photos
So, a long time ago, before some folks here were even bjorn and prior to movie cameras in your pocket being the norm - videos were put together after the annual spotting weekends.
The question Mr Ed and I have is why are these not on YouTube, if they are please share the links with us! On the topic of "the golden olden days", who are some of the characters that use to frequent the board that don't do so that much anymore (which is sad :() A quick story I'll share relates to the Radar Field and a gold coloured Commodore getting very, very bogged which was very, very funny to everyone who wasn't bogged. There must be a million light hearted moments we've forgotten, do share! Go......... |
We all remember seeing a guy "bogged" in the radar field too. But it had nothing to do with the soft sand.
|
Im sure that Krispy Kreme sure regretted having a drive through lane.....and Constable Plod having to fish Granny out of the Domestic terminal at some ungodly hour....
And Craig, don't forget Bill and Pammy from the USA..... Oh the stories we could tell..... |
Hi Craig,
You can start here for you reminiscing session :-P http://yssyforum.net/board/showthread.php?t=6922 I'll try muster up some of the broken links for the videos I posted in the same thread. * I found the 2004 Spotting Weekend video, but it goes for 50 minutes, will see what I can do, lol. |
You're a legend Amsy although I suspect you're hinting that I should use the 'search' function before posting haha!
|
Haha, funny enough, the search returned these pearlers...

Can't believe there are pics from Mascot RSL among those posted by Amsy, that was one hell of a fantastic night of which I have little recollection!!!

I found a few in the archives too... some are prints, from the days when I was probably one of the last using a film camera.
The Great Outdoors filming: http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/e...psdyswhqm9.jpg Group photo in the old Radar Field: http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/e...psyur3f5kf.jpg Classic Sydney photo (Hi Gabriel): http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/e...ps5wpp4sis.jpg Spotting weekends frequently coincided with the cricket at the SCG: http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/e...pswhnsa9ie.jpg http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/e...ps15p9xobk.jpg And a few of us went on occasional flying (when the weather cooperated): http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/e...pswtamwn16.jpg http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/e...ps3q0g7lj9.jpg http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/e...psthxy6tys.jpg What's also interesting - and demonstrating the power of forums like this - is that many of the characters in these photos who were young wannabes at the time are now firmly established in careers in the aviation industry. In many cases, this board (or its previous incarnations) provided the first direct contact with people already in the industry. |
I don't even remember that cricket match. What year was that Adam?
And yes you are right about some being wannabes and now with firm aviation careers. You still doing AD Approach? |
That was 2006 according to my photo albums. I'm not surprised you don't remember it, it was also the year that this happened.....
http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/e...psxrybr8vu.jpg  Aaanyways. Still ATC, yes (it was AD arrivals, not approach) - have been off the air for the last year while on secondment elsewhere in the company, but you should hear my disembodied voice floating around the airwaves again from about June. And yes, I met my first real air traffic controller through contact via the YSSY board. They proved an excellent help in preparing for the interview and while I was training. A very useful resource, this forum! |
Ohhh right :o:o. Yeah that year
Arrivals, approach, what's the difference :p You likely won't be hearing my voice on the Australian airwaves after next month for possibly quite a number of years. Listen around South East Asia instead. Mick |

Don't worry I'm sure I'll be able replace Floody's voice on the airwaves when I hit the domestic scene once again in July.
I completely forgot about those photos by the way! What the hell was I thinking with my fashion sense? |
You weren't thinking.
But good thing for you, the missus didn't care back then either! ;) |
Hahaha now that you mention it, there's a reason I hadn't met my missus yet! :p
