Singapore Air Force
Hi,
Just letting you know that the Singapore Air Force is at Parkes (NSW's Central West) undergoing parachute practice. I believe they are using a C130H Hercules for the drops. Apparently they come to Parkes every year as part of their training. They apparently arrive at YSRI for a couple of days before heading out west. Can anyone confirm this?? Photo's to come soon hopefully. :D Cheers, Jayden |
The Singapore Air Force used to use HMAS Albatross and the Army Parachute Training School there in the late 80's and early 90's. They might still go there at some stage too.
I left Nowra in 1993, so I don't know what's been happening down there after then. |
Hi there,
I heard Condor... ( not sure of numbers ) C130 depart Nowra NAS yesterday for Parkes, guessing they were transporting gear or personal... Cheers |
Hi all
Yep the C130 in question was here at Albatross today. Not sure what it was doing, was coming and going, also had a RAAF 'j' model here doin circuits. Will keep an eye out for it though |
Good to see not much has changed down there in the past 15 years!:D
Slightly off topic, but still on topic... Does Graham Taylor's Cessna 180B VH-TPG still do the parachute drops from the Cambewarra drop zone? I practically grew up with the sound of that old girl going over my house every weekend. |
Annual training exercise, with one Singaporean C-130 and usually a combination of Australian and Singaporean troops doing parachute requalification/training jumps. Usually an Australian C-130 is used as well. They can be here for three - four weeks.

Nigel,
there is a Cessna 180 i believe sitting in a shed over that way, not sure as to who owns it though. There's quiet a few little airstrips here in paddocks scattered around albartross. So we get a wide variety over the houses on the weekend. Will keep and eye out today for the singaporeans..... |
Thanks Adam. The C180 is owned by Graham Taylor who used to be the Cambewarra Public School principal. I dare say he'd have well and truly retired by now.
Cheers |

Well he is a nice bloke, and my post has been edited.
Bigger groan. |
Just went for a drive and had a quick glimpse. Got a picture aswell but didn't turn out to well, shooting between trees and through a 6 ft storm fence doesn't really look that good. Plus i probably wasn't suppose to be doing it.
The aircraft is the Singapore Air Force C130H and has '730' on the tail and '30' near the nose cone. The aircraft. http://www.airliners.net/photo/Singa...les/1335925/L/ But didn't move all day. Not sure how long it's here for. |
the Singaporean air force is a regular vistor to RAAF Richmond with its glossy finished Hercules.

Thanks for the replies. Popped out to the airport today hoping to catch the C130 there but it wasn't unfortunately. However there was this helicopter. Its now operated by Heli-Aust & the pilot there at the time told me they use it to go & retrieve the parachutist who miss the landing spot (airport).

Heard this afternoon "Condor" doing some parachute drops in the Parkes area i guess, was hard to understand but im guessing that it was the Singapore hurc.
Also, don't know if this is related, but am currently in Bathurst and the last two weeks i've been hearing and seeing quite a number of RAAF hurcs heading out west...just wondering whether these are all normal flights that they do or that i've just never noticed them, considering i'm normally in the hills district? Cheers |
Finally got some pictures to share with you all. Sorry about the quality, had to use my sisters little digital camera. It was an immaculate aircraft & i must say, the amount of smoke those engines produce is unbelievable. There was another helicopter out there which i was told is replacing VH-UTM (previous chopper). The new one there was VH-WEB. Anyways here are just some of the pics.
Cheers Jayden. |
The C130 has been lving here in Nowra for the last few days, leaves early in the morning and returns in the afternoon/evening.
Nice pics jayden, are they actaully shutting down there or burning and turning then going again. |
Adam,
In the first 3 pics, they are returning from a jump. The 1st & 2nd photos are of it turning around while the 3rd photo is of the herc taxiing back past the terminal. The 4th photo with the man standing in it, the C130 is just pulling away from its parking bay leaving for a jump. Got plenty more pictures on the camera but as i said before, most of them aren't the best due to the camera i was using. It was a Pentax Optio S10 which is a little toy type camera. Jayden |
