QF new livery

How is Qantas approaching repainting the fleet into the new livery?

Still, only 1 767, 1 747 have been repainted, and no A330-300's

I know that the 737's are being repainted

Will Qantas bother with any more?

It makes sense to paint all the A330's, but all of the -300's still have the old blue seat fabrics!

What about the 747's/767's? will they stay as they are?

I know that it costs a lot to paint a plane, and in these tough times especially.

Raymond Rowe 10th November 2008 07:39 PM

They will be painted as they go thru overhauls. The A330-300 are reasonably new so they will not be painted for a long time.

Robert Zweck 10th November 2008 07:52 PM

These things take time...only a few months ago I saw the B767 VH-OGQ? which still had its very old " The Australian Airline " titles instead of "The Spirit of Australia "

Rich W 11th November 2008 12:06 PM

Still heaps of old United livery around too. It must have been nearly 2 years since they introduced with a new white and blue colours?

However, its not the only thing that United take ages to upgrade...

Actually, more than four years ago - They released pics of their first 777 in the new colours in late 2004!

The re-paint is a minor change which will happen when the aircraft are ready to be repainted. There is no point doing a repaint for such a minor change. Most people would hardly notice the difference.

Jack B 11th November 2008 07:16 PM

I agree.

I think it would make sense to leave the 767's and 747's as they are

Obviously, the A330's and 737-800's make sense to paint in time

D Chan 11th November 2008 09:58 PM

might take 10 or so years to complete it all! - because you've got the Dash 8s and Qantaslink a/c as well
speaking of liveries it would be nice if we could go 'retro' on 1 or 2 a/c in the fleet

Bernie P 12th November 2008 08:18 AM

Are't there already a few of these (Q400 and the like) already done??

Todd Milton 12th November 2008 09:40 AM

Bernie,
The newer Q400's are done, and QOH is aswell as it is in the special Breast Cancer Pink livery. VH-QOI, -QOJ, -QOK, -QOM, -QON are all in the new QantasLink Livery. I think -TQY is still the only older Dash 8 to be in the new livery.

Todd Milton 21st August 2009 10:49 PM

VH-TJO 'Lorikeet' is the most recent repaint as of late last week, has been flying to Canberra for many days since! Looks very nice.

Paul C. 22nd August 2009 02:09 AM

And another 737-400 ZK-JTR (ex VH-TJN) has been repainted or converted into the new livery. I flew on VH-TJN on 26.3.2007 from Melbourne to Adelaide just 3 days before it was removed from the Australian register.

The new livery is on

The 3 A380's
2 767's
6 A330-200's
5 737-800's
2 737-400's
1 747-400
Several Dash 8's
A few 717's

Due in tomorrow evening from HKG with the new livery. Any spotters out on Sunday might spot them.

Jack B 11th September 2009 03:53 PM

I personally don't see why Qantas are still painting 767's in the new livery when the entire A330-300 fleet are in the old livery. Even though -OGS and -OGT are some of the younger 767's and won't be sent out to the knackers yard just yet, it seems logical to me to first paint the aircraft that will be around longest (A333, 744ER, 738)

Mate, to paint, first you must need to paint.

Anthony J 12th September 2009 07:32 AM

Unfortunately the number of aircraft in the new livery will reduce by one next week.

thats true,

I also suppose the fact the livery change is subtle is also a factor

I just find it strange to keep painting 763's

that said, are -OGS and -OGT the ratty old "The Australian Airline" 767's?

OJS is getting a repaint (Rolls Royce 744)

OGP is the other one with the new livery. OGD was the first to get the new livery but is retiring next week. OGS still has the old "The Australian Airline" but OGT had the original "The Spirit of Australia" on it. OGS and OGT are certainly not old - they rolled off the delivery line in 1997, so 12 years old is young.

Going to Victorville, assume they are being parked until a buyer is found.

OGA was in Adelaide today

Tom PER 12th September 2009 07:51 PM

OGD was advertised with having 73443 hrs and 25893 cycles.

It's well behind OGA-OGC on airframe hours but well ahead of them on cycles.

For those interested OED was 79236 hrs/9572 cycles.

Michael Atkin 12th September 2009 09:46 PM

Saw OJS roll in tonight, looking very shiny in her new livery.

Will it operate back home as the 108 and then cease operations? You make it sound as if the last flight will be the 107/108 to LAX only. If so, what will operate the return 108 ex LAX?

It will operate the 107/108 to JFK and will return to LAX. The 108 passengers will move to another aircraft. The flight to BNE for the night has been cancelled.

Ash W 13th September 2009 05:55 PM

Jack I think what Mike is trying to say is Qantas are not painting the aircraft for the hell of it, they are only painting them because they need it. The A330's are a tad newer and are not in need of a repaint, so won't be done unit they are ready.

It isn't like the Qantas change is a massive one, or a complete make over of the airline. In that case you might see wholesale repainting of the fleet.

Sarah C 13th September 2009 06:45 PM

Agree with Ash - look at Delta and United, how long is it taking to repaint thier fleet? They are not repainting aircraft unless they are due, even if it will take a long time.

Chris Fox 13th September 2009 09:12 PM

noted VXA "Broome" in Karratha tonight looking great in her shiny new livery...

Brenden S 14th September 2009 08:54 PM

VXA was in and out of Perth today, what a shame the wx was crap. As for the repainting of the fleet, its only when the paint is due to expire on the aircraft as per the Qantas system of maintenance.

Joseph Saragozza. 14th September 2009 09:13 PM

dose VXA have her eyebrows plugged/painted over or have they kept them?
