Is it just a charter for those 2 days because it doesn't fly to Sydney anymore?

Jayden Laing 1st May 2012 08:57 PM

Yes Rory, its a charter just over those 2 days!

It's on the tarmac in Hong Kong and hasn't departed just yet - but should do so shortly. So it's late running.

Posted for those who want to get a shot of it (might do so myself if the timing is right). I'll update the arrival time when it gets going.

Edit 2: Will arrive 06:27 tomorrow (2 May).

My info has it as B-KAF.

Tim Bowrey 2nd May 2012 09:23 PM

Parked at the GA this evening is a US Navy Grumman C-2 Greyhound arrived earlier this evening. I am not 100% on the reg as it was dark but according to the '42' marking on the front its 162178 (cn 58).

Grahame Hutchison 2nd May 2012 09:34 PM

Tim, I saw this one on RadarBox earlier this evening .....

162178 2012/05/02 18:04:32 Grumman C-2C Greyhound G-123 (58) - US Navy - Mode S (AE0459)

Greyhound '42' is from the USS Carl Vinson.

Tim Bowrey 2nd May 2012 09:59 PM

Thanks Grahame, its in a very dark spot of the GA but photographable(if thats a word) in the afternoon.

Shayne G 3rd May 2012 12:03 AM

EY454 is operated by A6-EHD A340-500 today (Thursday), will arrive around 18:10 tonight.

Shayne G 3rd May 2012 02:10 AM

The US Navy Grumman C-2 Greyhound is apparently doing some flights in and out of Sydney.

Departs Friday at 1:30pm and arrives back at 5:00pm on the same day.

On Saturday it departs at 10:15am, unsure at this time if it will come back after that flight.

as always, subject to change.

Tim Bowrey 3rd May 2012 02:39 PM

This evening brings us Thai's HS-TGW as TG471/472. Not a first visit but it certainly is uncommon in recent times for the Star Alliance livery.

Here is the RAWHIDES C-2A

Fantastic Jaryd!

Tim Bowrey 4th May 2012 01:01 PM

The C-2 just departed 16L as 'Romeo Golf 01'

Jaryd stock 4th May 2012 03:28 PM

C-2 is down in Nowra and is scheduled to be back at 5:30

Tim Bowrey 4th May 2012 09:37 PM

Tomorrows KE121/122 operated by HL7743 the 'New Horizons' which has visited several times in the past but not recently.

Andrew Coggan 5th May 2012 10:30 AM

The C-2 departed 16L about half an hour ago.

NathanJ 5th May 2012 02:06 PM

Royal Brunei RBA4076 772 V8-BLD just overflew Sydney from Christchurch.

Brett Williamson 5th May 2012 08:48 PM

Did the C-2 come back this arvo? I would like to see it tomorrow.

Nigel C 5th May 2012 09:06 PM

Nope, not here now.

Chris, the only thing missing from your shot is the copious amounts of black smoke that bellowed from this thing, 8 blade props sure spun fast, so I'm not surprised you got easy prop blur.
It was interesting watching the start-up procedure for it yesterday. With about 6 ground crew front and back and sides, one guy gave all the funky aircraft carrier hand signals to the pilot (a lot of which I could keep up with, but many I had no idea what he was asking to check...), and after each procedure the aircraft was checked to make sure no leaks or faults were detected. Everything from the rear cargo door closing to the brake lines after 5m taxiing were checked prior to departure. It was a lengthy procedure but so slick to watch.

Cheers

James S. 5th May 2012 09:47 PM

Bet it couldn't beat the AN-12 Nigel. :D

Nigel C 5th May 2012 11:00 PM

I'm not sure if I've been rostered on for an An-12 departure :-/ Something to look forward to, you reckon?

James S. 5th May 2012 11:04 PM

The same rego we got back in December. (UR-CAH) :D

Also, does anyone remember the last time a C-2 visited Sydney? I seem to remember one departing off 34R back in the early 2000's.

Nigel C 6th May 2012 12:09 AM

Possibly when the USS Kitty Hawk came in 2007? I do remember seeing the last C-2 visit, but can't pinpoint exactly when. Too many night shifts clouding the memory I think!

James S. 6th May 2012 12:39 AM

I think it was more around the time when the USS Constellation came around ~2001. (Only a fuzzy memory now)

Nigel C 6th May 2012 12:29 PM

Ok it wins :)

Paul f. 6th May 2012 05:34 PM

Due in Monday afternoon is Falcon 2000 D-BFFB from NZ,this aircraft was in MEL last weekend.

Shayne G 6th May 2012 07:27 PM

Thai Airways Star Alliance 744 HS-TGW is back again operating TG471..

Peter Agatsiotis 6th May 2012 08:30 PM

The only C-2 Greyhounds logged (by me) were the 2 at SYD on 2nd July 2005.
162169/27 and 162164/26 from the USS Kittyhawk. I have them as C-2A and was wondering when the later 8 bladed props (C-2C?) were introduced.

there may have been more since but I don't recall any.

callum bain 7th May 2012 03:54 PM

just a note that a thai 747-400 is in at the moment wearing there special one world livery rego is HS-TGW

Jaryd stock 7th May 2012 04:35 PM

Sorry Callum but it's been mentioned and it's the Star Alliance not One World livery.

Pete If I remember correctly there was a C-2 around July 2007 can't remember which SQN but it had the rising sun art work on the tail, very much like the Sundowners scheme they had on there F-14's now F-5's.
Happy to be corrected.

callum bain 7th May 2012 04:49 PM

Thanks for that and sorry for the mistake also i noted a c-17 globe master do a low flyover at home bush if anyone can tell me about this because a week ago i saw the same thing over newtown thx

Jaryd stock 7th May 2012 05:46 PM

It's the weekly USAF flight into Richmond AFB is was quite low today I noticed it from Sutherland.

callum bain 7th May 2012 05:50 PM

thanks thought it was odd also am i right to say that the usaf used to fly there c-5 galaxy over here or has it always been c-17

callum bain 7th May 2012 05:54 PM

and why does the USAF fly there c-17s here anyway do they have troops here in sydney

Jaryd stock 7th May 2012 06:03 PM

They fly supplies around the place as to why sort dunno troops would be on charter flights from different American Airlines, and I could be wrong but before C-17's, C-141's used to do the run with an occasional C-5/ KC-10-135 doing it but very rarely. We might have to create another thread Callum to discuss further since this is movement thread only....

callum bain 7th May 2012 06:06 PM

Thanks maybe title richmond movements or something am new to forum and am unsure how but thanks

callum
