Nice to see SBB in a new coat. It was the first Dash I flew back 14 yrs ago...

Max C 21st August 2017 08:10 AM

SBT is named Rockhampton

Zac M 23rd August 2017 08:25 PM

Dunno what happened with VYFs paint. There was s day last week when XZG operated 71 with no scheduled return and it ended up ferrying back so can only assume something was meant to go then.

Regardless, VYG will position to Seletar from Perth on Sunday as QF6006 for painting

SBV will swap with TQZ in TSV on Friday!

Max C 5th September 2017 09:03 PM

TQZ is named Bundaberg

Adam W 9th September 2017 12:22 PM

VYG back tonight as QF72 SIN-PER. VYH going in today as QF71 PER-SIN.

Max C 15th September 2017 06:16 AM

SBV back today, TQE to up to TSV for repaint.

Michael R 15th September 2017 12:12 PM

Any indication when we might get a B717 or Dash 400 in the new livery? Seems all the 300's are getting done.

Max C 15th September 2017 01:34 PM

Q400's in Dec
Q200's in 2019
B717's in Jul 218

All subject to change.

The entire process will take 5 years

Michael R 15th September 2017 02:05 PM

Thank you Max. Was very surprised to see the 300's being done first in the Qlink fleet for the East Coast.

Max C 16th September 2017 08:05 AM

They mostly have the oldest paint so it makes sense to paint them first.

Zac M 17th September 2017 03:45 PM

SBV is named Devonport

Now that VYH is back from painting does anyone know the next 737-800 rego to head off to Singapore for painting?
Will VYF be next given it was skipped in favour of VYG & VYH?

MarkR 25th September 2017 09:40 PM

Saw SBW in AKL today, looks naked with no paint!

Max C 28th September 2017 05:55 AM

TQE comes out today.

QOA may possibly be going in but I can't comfirm.

VH-VYF has been painted in the new livery returning from Singapore on 8 August.

C Patters 28th September 2017 10:17 AM

James I think you'll find that was VYE as VYF is still in the old livery

James Smith 28th September 2017 12:23 PM

Interesting. I was going by what the Traffic column stated in the August edition of Australian Aviation. So are VXM, VYD, VYE and VYG the only Qantas B738s in the new livery?

C Patters 28th September 2017 01:40 PM

Also add VYH to the list. Looks like only VYF, VYI, VYJ, VYK & VYL to be done

Max C 30th September 2017 11:59 AM

TQE now named 'Launceston'

Max C 11th October 2017 06:30 PM

QOA back to BNE tonight.
TQH up to TSV tomorrow.

Robert.M 13th October 2017 09:16 PM

QOA is named "Gladstone"

Max C 14th October 2017 07:11 AM

Some of the Q400's are already named and these shouldn't change once they're repainted.

Max C 14th October 2017 09:31 PM

NHQ has been painted. It is named 'Karratha'
NHV is in XSP now for repaint.

Robert.M 15th October 2017 02:14 PM

So QantasLink aircraft that have the "new roo" livery (not included those in paint).

Q300 - 5
SBB, SBT, SBV, TQE, TQZ

Q400 - 1
QOA

F100 - 2
NHP, NHQ

Zac M 15th October 2017 03:29 PM

Two F100s, dont forget NHP!

Here is QOA today at CBR!

Robert.M 15th October 2017 04:41 PM

Ar, yes! How did I forget NHP! :o

Nice photo of QOA, going to be awhile before I see it along with the other Q300s

Zac M 18th October 2017 06:14 PM

VZR is scheduled to do QF77 to SIN on Saturday so appears she is off for painting

C Patters 18th October 2017 07:09 PM

Why would Qantas be painting VZR when VYF, VYI, VYJ, VYK & VYL are still to be painted & are in the oldest livery still flying? Doesn’t make sense.

Rowan McKeever 18th October 2017 07:44 PM

We’ve been pondering that same question... but, there’s no 78 scheduled and XZD is on 71, so it definitely looks as though VZR is up for a random repaint!?

Greg Hyde 19th October 2017 11:02 AM

Wouldn't it depend on when the next maintenance is due ?

Rowan McKeever 19th October 2017 12:15 PM

I would've thought it would depend more on when the next repaint was due. Considering none of the remaining VYx series have been repainted since delivery in January 2006 (VYL; earlier, obviously, for the others) and VZR not since delivery in August 2011, I (like most of us) would have expected the VYx then VZA-VZE and ZQx to be done before the likes of VZR.

Perhaps this says something of the quality of the paintwork and finish on the respective deliveries.

Greg Hyde 19th October 2017 02:50 PM

Has any gone to SIN for a repaint without maintenance ?

Also, they are one a/c down with VZZ grounded in Sydney.

Rowan McKeever 19th October 2017 03:12 PM

As far as I know, all the ones that have been repainted in Singapore have only been repainted in Singapore (i.e. no other maintenance work).

It's also my understanding that VZZ is having its WiFi installation done while awaiting repairs, which means at least for the first week or so the network isn't really 'one down' as such.

Greg Hyde 19th October 2017 05:03 PM

Sorry Rowan, My mistake.

I'm surprised that they are taking a/c out just for a repaint rather than timing it with other tasks (maintenance).

Fred C 19th October 2017 05:42 PM

It is very hard to maintain an aircraft while it is being painted.

Engineers don't like breathing spray paint and painters don't want engineers in the way.

It is hard to do any work whilst it is covered in brown paper and masking tape.

So planes get painted without any maintenance.

Rowan McKeever 19th October 2017 06:06 PM

Technically, repainting is maintenance in that it prevents rusting and other types of damage to the airframe, as well as optimising the aerodynamics and fuel efficiency of the aircraft. As Fred says, though, quite hard to do a repaint concurrently with other maintenance (though, often, an aircraft will be programmed to have a maintenance check with a repaint following straight after, or vice versa).

Greg Hyde 19th October 2017 07:39 PM

[QUOTE=(though, often, an aircraft will be programmed to have a maintenance check with a repaint following straight after, or vice versa).[/QUOTE]

That would be logical to do the repaint directly after a maintenance check but I suppose the issue is to co-ord the maint.. and paintshop

Ryan Hothersall 20th October 2017 08:55 AM

paint

Back in the days when Qantas did all their maintenance in house, they probably could do that.

Zac M 20th October 2017 09:25 AM

QANTAS still do the huge majority of maintenance in house, painting has not been done in house for some time, not enough work (generally) to keep it running.
