Didn't the taxiway lighting give them a clue ?

Or the fact the markings are yellow on taxiways, white on runways.

In 2001 we had a Cessna 402 land on Twy Alfa abeam Intl-3....on his second approach. He was already aligned with Alfa on the first approach, and came back and landed on it on his second attempt. It was a smooth landing, with 3 nice long skid marks showing his point of touchdown.

The report from that incident can be seen here https://www.atsb.gov.au/publications...200102619.aspx

Never mind the PAPI/TVASIS being in the wrong spot, along with the approach lighting. At least they got the right airport, Tulla has the running rabbit solely as a result of numerous attempts by aircraft to land at Essendon.
