Perth idle Ozjets

Hi all, I have been travelling to Perth for work on a regular basis and always notice the two Ozjet 732s parked in a very remote area of the field. Certainly they have been there for many years and will most certainly not fly again, but if they are to get the chop, does anyone know why this has not yet taken place and who currently owns these frames?

Greg Hyde 27th March 2016 08:51 PM

I think that they are:

VH-OZU -> N733HL
VH-OZX -> N737HL

Both are owned by Flightstar Trading, Fort Lauderdale FL, USA

Another is a training aid at Jandakot

The parking fees now exceed the value of the aircraft, so until Perth airport go through the proper debt recovery procedures they just wait.

Mark,

Does that mean eventually sold to a scraper to recover part of the debt ?

I would imagine it goes to tender once judgement on the debt sees ownership revert to Perth Airport. Bit like sister ship RP-C8016 in Cairns a few years back that got the scrap. What happens to the Belfast will no doubt be different.

Out of curiosity, would there be any pilots in Australia who could still fly a 737-200?

VH-OBN was ferried to Jandakot in April 2010.

QF Air Freight/Nauru Airlines are still flying -300 series aircraft.

So there maybe pilots/crew out there.

Plenty who could fly one, not many who would be current, which is an easy fix.

Grahame, can you refrain from posting pictures in most threads unless stated in the thread title. Some of us browsing on mobile use up a lot of data having to download these photos on threads where a link to the picture may be more appropriate. Thank you.

MarkR 29th March 2016 03:59 PM

I enjoy the pictures despite having a meagre download allowance on my mobile/tablet, and I can always go into my profile and turn off image display in posts if it bothers me ;).

A bit of an overdue update, they were moved off airport last month to a private property.

Quote:

PEOPLE have lined to the streets to catch a glimpse of a Boeing 737-200 as it left Perth Airport and hit the open road bound for its new permanent home in a paddock in York.

The jet airliner left the airport just after 11am and is travelling along Roe Hwy and Great Eastern Hwy on its way to the White Gum Air Park in the Avon Valley.

The plane, once the pride and joy of the low-cost OzJet fleet, has been parked at Perth Airport since the airline went into administration in 2009.

Since then it has deteriorated and accumulated parking fees in excess of its value.

"pride and joy" ?? More like "disappointment and misery" for anyone that was left owed money but OzJet.
The people of Perth must be awfully bored if they lined up to watch these ancient hulks being carted away :eek:

Hi Rampdog

I live in Perth and can assure you that I was one of the hundreds of thousands of people who DID NOT line the streets !

The "West" has exaggerated again.
