Botched Water Cannon Salute

Of course wouldn't happen here would it Nig? lol

A Virgin Atlantic passenger jet was grounded after a botched ‘water cannon salute’ by airport fire tenders clogged up its engines by spraying thick foam instead of water.

I'd imagine the fire tender's debrief would have been an interesting one!

I wonder which Fire-fighter will be washing the Tender and cleaning the Toilets for the next month or two ?

I wonder which firefighter will be sitting in the back from now on! ;)

Does this require engine changes and will the engines need a significant overhaul or will a good clean suffice?

Expensive bill for some insurance company.

Cheers

Would depend on how much the engines ingested, it creates all sorts of issues within the engine.

Not the first time it has happened though. United Airlines unitentional foam salute that damaged Boeing 777 meant as water salute, says Dulles fire crew - flightglobal.com 22 December 2006

Interesting - when Qantas A380 VH-OQA (Nancy-Bird Walton) had that engine oil fire incident, the only way to shut down the remaining engine that was still running after landing was to pump foam through it. Water from fire trucks did nothing to that massive engine. :-)

As the engine is designed to ingest water...
