I was told today that American registered aircraft do not carry the registration under the wing.Is that correct? If so then this is a rare pic as you can see the US reg under the wing.

Lloyd, I wonder (couldn't tell from your images) if the US reg were stickers which could be torn off to reveal the OZ reg.

The ones under the wings may cover the Aust. Reg.

This would explain why US reg lack rego on the wing.

Quote:

Until December 31, 1960, the required location for display of nationality and identification marks for fixed- wing aircraft was the wing surfaces, and the vertical surface of either the tail or fuselage. Effective January 1, 1960, all fixed-wing aircraft were required to display identification marks on the vertical surfaces or either the tail or fuselage. Wing surface markings were no longer required.

From QQ facebook page

Just like VH-UYZ (below) each of our 14 new Embraer’s will be registered VH – UY[ ].
These registrations are very special to Alliance in two ways.
1. The call sign our pilots proudly use on each and every flight is UNITY.
2. Between January 1929 and February 1938 all Australian aircraft were registered VH – U[ ][ ] using the last two letters of the previous British G – AU registration. For example Smithy’s famous Southern Cross G – AUSU became VH – USU.
