Explains QPJ mystery trip to VCV

Mark Grima 27th October 2016 02:45 PM

I've been a little out of the loop of late, but, did anyone see that coming? I'd not heard any rumor and innuendo about it at all?

Cheers

M

It was a really well hidden secret.

I've gotta say when I first saw the new branding, I loved it. But the more I see it and think about it, it seems that they've overdone the new 'roo. They've removed its paws and for many around the world it may not be instantly recognisable as a kangaroo.

Ryan Hothersall 27th October 2016 09:09 PM

Yes I agree that with every tweak of the livery, the kangaroo looks less and less like a kangaroo.

However, I like the grey stripe.

Jason Carruthers 27th October 2016 09:50 PM

The new standalone logo looks quite good but on the aircraft? To be honest I''m not too sure what to make of it. I do like the silver tones on the rear fuselage and on the kangaroo. Not happy with the amputated roo. I'm glad the kangaroos are only on the inside winglets and not outside. The titles are a bit meh it took me a while to get used to the '07 titles but I did grow to like them, maybe these will too. I'm in two minds about the engine logo. On one hand the two tone red looks really good but it's bit garish maybe if the stuck with the reshaped triangle logo similar to the engines on the' 84 and '07 design and at similar proportions it would look better. I love how the incorporated the retro roo roundel into the livery. It reminds me of Air France and how they retained their flying seahorse logo in some form throughout their livery redesigns. Having said that I feel the aircraft name in retro font clashes with the rest of the titles. Maybe if they moved the roundel from the nose and had a black and white retro roo roundel on the engines instead of the red roo it would look better.

Anyone know how many aircraft are still getting around in the '84 design?

Qantas "New Era" Livery & Dreamliner Next Generation Cabins

Qantas launched their "New Era" livery on Airbus A333 VH-QPJ this morning, with the aircraft arriving from Kona as QFA6004, and then being towed into Hangar 96 for the launch by Tug Blue Delta.

The Next Generation cabins for the Boeing B787 Dreamliners were also on show, with Business and Economy seat pods setup for inspection.

Livery Differences: New font used for the Titles, Aircraft Name & Retro Qantas Kangaroo logo on nose, full kangaroo on the engines instead of the red triangle, Kangaroo on the inside of the winglets, different
Airbus A330-300 titles and logo, silver stripe in front of the red on the lower fuselage, wing like silver flash on the new stylised Kangaroo.

Here are some images from today's launch.

Raymond Rowe 29th October 2016 01:22 PM

cheap and nasty. Could have come up with something a bit more imaginative.

Nigel C 29th October 2016 02:52 PM

If you've got a more imaginative design in mind, I think it would be great to share it. Drawn, photoshopped, I don't mind :)

Michael R 4th November 2016 05:55 PM

I wonder if any of the Qlink aircraft will ever wear the new livery.

Rowan McKeever 4th November 2016 08:31 PM

They announced entire fleet by 2020 so I can't really see why the QLink fleet wouldn't be done. Would be very strange to continue the 2007/8 livery just for QLink...

Damian N 13th November 2016 02:17 PM

does anyone know when the next aircraft are scheduled for paint and what type? I figure that on average there needs to be up to a couple a month repainted to meet a 2020 target.

Rowan McKeever 13th November 2016 08:04 PM

A330-300 VH-QPI is meant to be off to SIN soon, next to be repainted. After that I'd probably say (pure guesswork) keep an eye on any of the 738s which are still in the 1980s livery heading to SIN (especially if there's a QF77 with no corresponding QF78) or, less likely, TSV.

Zac M 13th November 2016 08:13 PM

QPI will go to VCV as per QPJ and QPH

Here's a comparison of the old (2008) and new (2016) scheme on the A333 from photos I took in BNE about a month ago. Does anyone know when we will see the next aircraft type to get the Silver Roo scheme? As far as I can see, we have three QF A333s so far.

C Patters 5th February 2017 03:22 PM

I would imagine that the next batch of aircraft's to be repainted would be the 737-800's which are still in the "Old Roo" livery.

Damian N 5th February 2017 03:36 PM

Curious to see the Qantaslink version - surely a Dash/717/Fokker can't be too far away?

789?

Ray P. 5th February 2017 04:53 PM

It may well be the B789, but that's still a fair way off. It's been more than three months since the new scheme was unveiled, I'd have thought that we would have had more than three aircraft the same type done at this point.

Kent Broadhead 5th February 2017 04:59 PM

True Ray - I was in the US when the announcement was made and missed the "2018" after "March" in the AA article. I reckon you're right with 738, before October.

As this is a relatively minor change I doubt there will be a wholesale repaint, Just like the last change. So no doubt a/c will get repainted when they are due for a repaint, so I am not surprised they are not more in the new scheme.

There are still about a dozen 737's, plus similar number of Dash-8's and a couple of 717's in the pre 2007 livery. So no doubt we will see them repainted.

Except that QF announced the entire fleet would be repainted by 2020, so unlike last time they obviously don't intend to string it out over 10 years or more.

FWIW I think the next will either be a B738 or a B717 - there happens to be a pre-2008 livery B717 in the hangar in CBR so quite possibly it will go to TSV or WGA for repainting while it's already on the east coast.

Ash W 5th February 2017 10:20 PM

Yeah it does say 2020 but it also says will be done during scheduled repaints. Something doesn't add up either way anyway.

I personally wouldn't be surprised to see a hybrid livery of some fuselage changes(titles underneath , wing tip and a/c name) but 2007 roo on tail and logo Most wouldn't notice the difference.

Michael R 6th February 2017 07:58 AM

Word is at work that the first Qantaslink aircraft won't be painted till at least the second half of 2018. Sad really because some of those q400 and 300's are looking very tired. Doubt very much we will see any 200's get the new livery. But again things tend to change quickly over here at the moment so anything goes.

Max C 14th March 2017 06:10 PM

SBW will ferry BNE-TSV tomorrow for repaint.

50/50 bet as to whether it'll come out as JQ or the new QF livery.

Zac M 26th March 2017 08:27 PM

SBW positioning to BNE tomorrow, could not find any flying for it in the near future so Im gonna guess there will either be further positioning to TMW for maintenance or it will be a JQ bird headed across the ditch

Zac M 26th March 2017 09:54 PM

Supposedly (according to a source in TSV), this aircraft is painted all white.

Max C 27th March 2017 04:35 AM

I've been told it's a spare aircraft for NZ as the 300's over there need to come back to TMW for heavy maintenance.

MarkR 27th March 2017 06:36 AM

Should be a fun trip bumping out of Townsville today, I see HTI is already reporting 50kt winds.

Max C 27th March 2017 12:32 PM

Confirmed all white.

Zac M 27th March 2017 12:39 PM

So I assume it will go across the ditch to cover checks and then return here to do the same operating for both JQ and QLK??? Cannot see another reason for it to be all white unless it has been removed from the fleet entirely and awaiting delivery to a new owner

Max C 28th March 2017 06:18 AM

The QLink fleet will start to be repainted from July this year.

Jacob L 28th March 2017 11:11 AM

Urgently needed, especially when some aircraft are starting to show the green paint. Take NXM, (717), paint job needed urgently!!!

Michael R 28th March 2017 11:17 AM

It certainly is embarrassing hearing comments from passengers as they board some of our Dash 8 's in Sydney. A number of 300's and 400's are in dying need of a repaint. VH-TQX the last 200 in old livery could do with a coat as well.

Max C 30th March 2017 07:29 PM

SBW does to AKL via NLK on 31/03, subject to weather.

One of the JQ Q300's will come back over on 04/04

C Patters 31st March 2017 07:15 AM

Any word on when the next batch of 737-800's will be repainted as most of the VH-VY's are still in the old livery?

Zac M 2nd April 2017 10:25 PM

Dash 8-Q400 VH-LQM lost her recognise stickers overnight.
