Yes Thai are aware of them .They are legitimate.

Nice new terminal in Krabi and a much nicer, relaxed place than Phuket. Also very large numbers of European tourists go there but not a lot of Aussies (not like Phuket where every second person you hear a bogan Aussie accent! lol).
