Qf93 06/04

Today's QF93 was operated by VH-OEB. I thought it was operationally required that this flight is a 744ER?

Grahame Hutchison 6th April 2010 12:48 PM

Jason, the A380 has been operating this service for a while, not every day, but on some rotational basis. Have a look at http://www.16right.com/ACARS.php?Reg...&submit=Search to see the days where it has operated the service.

Hi Jason,

The non ER 744s have been seen on the MEL-LAX route here and there. I remember OJH operated it just before it went into storage in AVV.

Grahame, im not sure if you understood Jasons post but OEB is a 744 not an A380, just to clarify :)

Jason H 6th April 2010 03:02 PM

Oh yes i forgot OJH operated that leg in July...my bags which were left in LAX were on it :D

Grahame, i was referring to the days when 744s are used, and I thought that OEE/F/G/H/I/J were the only aircraft used MEL-LAX for operational reasons, much like how ERs have only been used SYD-EZE

Jason,

SYD-EZE-SYD is definitely restricted to 744ER only, mainly due to the performance required to get off the relatively short runways (3300m) in EZE with a decent payload.

MEL-LAX eastbound isn't a problem for non-ER aircraft, however the return sector LAX-MEL would be severely payload restricted and even subject to a tech stop in SYD if weather in MEL is marginal.

I'd imagine they'd swap aircraft in LAX so that OEB comes home via SYD or continues onto JFK perhaps.

Hope that clears it up.

Sorry Jason, caught out by a bit of speed reading.

Montague S 6th April 2010 06:42 PM

there was also an ER that had a cracked windscreen down here yesterday...

departed about 15hrs late @ 0100 this morning.

Jason H 6th April 2010 06:44 PM

We're all guilty of that. Thanks for clarifying Mick.
