Vapour trail over Hobart
Hi.
Around 4pm on Sunday 19th April, there was a very high vapour trail from a jet over Hobart. The aircraft was travelling in a south - north direction. Does anyone know where this aircraft may have been travelling from? Rarely do you see a vapour trail in southern Tasmania. Cheers. |
Qantas 63-64Joburg flight?
|
Does that flight come so far south?
|
Its known to travel that far south on the odd occasion

Sounds like QF18 from Buenos Aires to Sydney, Flight arrives in Sydney at 1750 local on Sunday Arvo.
|
QF63 is normally landed in Sydney by that time so doubt it was that, plus they normally track down the west coast of Tas and quite a way out into the ocean.
|
Most likely to be, as everyone else has said, from Joburg as I've seen flights from joburg to Aus flying very south, on a qantas flight tracker program.

Please refrain from quoting the whole previous post in your post, it is not necessary, thank you - mod
Never quite understood why some continue to promote as likely things that are not, even after previous posters have illustrated a much more probable (and demonstratable) scenario. QF64 was on the blocks at SYD at 14:19 so hardly likely to be over Hobart at 16:00 QF18 arrived SYD at 17:34 so that is much more likely to be over Hobart at that time. |
Could it also have been a USAF C-17 flight from McMurdo, or perhaps the Australian Antarctic Division's A319 headed to MEL???
|
Talking about QF63 - I noted this track the other day, one of the most southerly routes I have seen her take.
