First Touch N Go this arvo by a calibration aircraft onto the new runway.A historic day for BNE....7 weeks to go.
|
10 Days to go till it opens.Traffic is increasing and it will get use.Golly where did the last 8 years go?
BNE airport facebook page has info on live streaming on Sunday 12 July. I do plan to be there and take some photos of this historic occasion for Queensland. |
6 DAYS TO GO and VA 781 BNE-CNS at 1050am will be the first departure on the new runway. This has already been advised and a late am departure so all VIP's can sleep in a bit.:D
There are 4 aircraft from the North landing between 1110am and 1140am that could be the first arrival but this has not been nominated .2 are Jetstar and Qantaslink and Virgin are the other 2. Remember the new runway is for North and Western movements only so all Southern and Eastern arrivals and departures are on the current runway system. |
Less than 24 hrs now to go.Hearing there may be some Warbirds involved?
New tower frequency is 118.00 BNE airport facebook livestream tomorrow and activities from 7am.:) |
I heard about a flypast after VA781 departs. ATC mentioned it too
Edit: VA781 is taxiing to the new runway Edit 2: the flypast formation is waiting for VA781 to depart. Edit 3: I think one of the aircraft performing the flypast has the callsign "heritage 1" Edit 4: VA781 departed. ATC: "for the first time ever, cleared for takeoff" Edit 5: the flypast of 3 aircraft include a spitfire, mustang and an albatross. Feel free to correct me. Edit 6: a texan seems to also be present Edit 7: the spitfire is VH-XWE |
This is some of the pics taken today from the Domestic Car park 2.

First to land was probs one of the warbirds. Edit: according to Llyod the first to land was the Spitfire VH-XWE Wait, I thought the L-39 Albatross was the first to land? In the stream I saw the L-39 parked, the P-51 taxiing and the Spitfire doing maneuvers... |

The other warbirds landed on the current runway to position themselves near the new runway Sean.
The Spitfire was definitely the first to land on the new runway. Cheers. |
I feel sorry for the two Jetstar flights that had to hold while the ceremony played out
