QF to officially announce PER-LHR

According to AusBT Alan Joyce will today announce nonstop PER-LHR services to commence early-2018 with, obviously, the B789. Expect a domestic tag ex-MEL which may indicate MEL-DFW or YVR is definitely on the cards.

Interesting they plan to operate from the domestic terminal.

Just a question for those who have long memories?? I believe that "once upon a time", QF held 8 slots, for 4 daily flights from MEL & SYD. Then I remember that QF did LHR/MAN/LHR with a 744 for a short time, replacing it with 2??? X 146 return flights. So perhaps they may have owned 10???. When the 4 x 744 flights from "AUS" to LHR were replaced by 2 x 380s did QF lease their slots out or sell them??

My question is how many do QF own at LHR?? at the moment. I am sure someone will know.

2 morning arrivals, 2 lunch time arrivals, 2 lunch time departures, 2 evening departures are owned by Qantas, with unused slots on lease to BA. The dropping of the Melbourne service makes sense in that context, that way they can do PER without mucking around negotiating with BA, although a double daily would change that obviously.

Flights on sale from today.

So in a nutshell this is not really a new flight, just a re-routing and down-gauge of an existing one.

One wonders how much the need to negotiate with BA on the leased slots had to do with shutting down QF9, coupled with the existing competition albeit mostly friendly out of Melbourne.
