The attempted hijacking of a Pan Am 747 at YSSY in 1971

I saw something on the 'net about an attempted highjacking of a Pan Am Boeing 747 at YSSY in 1971.

Does anyone have any information on this incident from 50 years ago?

Apparently the would-be terrorist took a female hostage, but federal police shot him dead.

I'm surprised I've never heard about this incident before, even though it occurred a long time ago. Any details would be appreciated - motive, cause, etc.

It was in 1979

If you want more details (newspaper reports) visit the Mitchell Library in the City and look at the SMH, Sydney Sun & Mirror on the day & day(s) after the incident.

Thanks... he wanted a meeting with the Pope and a Communist leader in Italy? Yep, sounds like a nutter.
