Plans to build the world's biggest airport on the Thames unveiled
Pie in the sky maybe, but I kinda like it.
High speed rail from London Thames Hub Airport to various continental European cities is a great alternative to connecting flights and would have great appeal. Frankfurt has something similar already. I wish they'd do that at airports like Sydney and LAX also. Thames Hub Airport |
Just had a looksee of the area on google maps. Good location for a number of reasons, namely existing rail line, close proximity to the high speed rail to Europe. 60kms from London CBD, power station nearby. Plenty of swamp land and a wide river mouth meaning less residents to annoy from a flight path perspective.
Downside. The british economy is rooted at this point, so you can forget it for another decade |
Will be interesting, if this goes ahead, what they do to protect against the Tidal surges the North sea throws down the mouth of the Thames, also how the change in the Estuary affects down river.

This has been promoted years ago, it's bit like the Badgery's Creek plan.

They plan for it to have a capacity of 150 million PAX and to cost $50 Billion it would replace heathrow as the main HUB in the UK. Would be great if it went ahead the enviromentalists will block it as its on island in the estuary with special habitats etc that will have to be protected and so on, it wont get off the ground.
