2 Qantas Planes In HKG Hangar

I flew out of HKG late Saturday night. During the approach to the runway, I noticed 2 Qantas planes inside a large hangar. As it was very dark at the time, I could not see the type of aircraft clearly, but one of them was definitely a 744.

Is this a regular occurrence? Do Qantas planes stay overnight in HKG or are they there for maintenance?

There is a recent shot on Airliners.net of B-HIH (CX 742SF) taken on 11/10/08.

If you look in the background there is a QF B744 (RR powered) undergoing a check just outside the hangars.

QF reckons they do 90% of their heavy checks in Australia but there seems to be an increasing amount of aircraft showing up in Asia for heavy maintenance...HKG, SIN, MNL and old SZB.

Who is to say it is there on heavy check, there are other maintenance procedures that have to be done at daily and weekly intervals and it is not always easy to get an aircraft back to an Australian Port to carry out the work so you may find that these checks are carried out by HAECO or other maintenance providers to help decrease aircraft downtime and costing the airline more money in the long run.

Actually I was transiting through FRA over the weekend and saw OJE on a remote stand and it appeared that she was bare, aside from the roo on the tail.

Was I seeing things or is she indeed titleless?
