Haneda slots

The Japanese government has awarded 4 slots to Tokyo Haneda airport to Australian ops, 1 to JAL, one to ANA, and two to Australian carriers.

Could this be Virgin's plan for the A330? And/or Qantas replacing the 744 with two twins? The IASC would have to give at least one slot to VA if they want it. JQ unlikely, they hub with GK in NRT. Or if VA aren't interested QF could move their MEL and BNE flights from NRT to HND.

I doubt VA would be interested given their current financial woes.
Would make sense for QF to relocate their other 2 mainline flights there.

It will be interesting to see how these slots are utilised. They are for daytime slots not midnight or early morning slots which QANTAS currently uses.

Daytime being 0600-2255 does open up options for the incumbents, both of whom have aircraft sitting on the ground for a long period due to the current slots. An 0800 departure and 1700-1800 arrival would allow for day flights in both directions and provide equipment to operate the current slots.

and the bids are in... Qantas wants both of the available Haneda slots, Virgin wants one.

Qantas would move to double daily SYD HND and move the MEL NRT over to Haneda, leaving just BNE connected to Narita.

Prediction: one each.

Not business friendly

Not much business on the route, Japan gets 2500 business visitors a month from Australia, while tourists account for 42000-60000 visitors a month.

Virgin better get their butts into gear... submissions close tomorrow and only Qantas have applied.

Sorted

Virgin Australia is seeking an allocation of one frequency per day for passenger services during daytime hours to/from Haneda Airport, on the basis that:
- the capacity will be utilised by Virgin Australia;
- the capacity will be utilised for joint services with All Nippon Airways (ANA);
- the allocation is granted for a period of five years from the date of the determination; and
- the allocation will be fully utilised by 29 March 2020.

Service ex BNE is proposed
