Rumour: CX B77W to Sydney?

Rumour is that Cathay Pacific from December will deploy B777-300ER to Sydney every alternative day.

This information can be found on CX's schedule:

B77W service will operate on CX138/139 - so perhaps one new spot for our spotters during daylight savings!

I wonder what is the loading for CX138 so far, since it looks to me that it is the only red eye service you have between Sydney and Hong Kong, plus having no creditable alternatives (as both SQ242 and SQ222 cannot connect same day flights to Hong Kong at Singapore), looks they are getting pretty popular as now they have to add new capacity to this service! :D

Also for other airlines (such as MH, SQ, TG etc.) I think they should seriously consider adding a red eye service from their respective hub to Hong Kong so their last Sydney flight of the day can connect with this flight and arrive in Hong Kong early - the demand has it and no one will want to spend either a whole day on the plane from Sydney to Hong Kong or catch 3 planes (via MEL/BNE) to get a red eye timing.

Not a rumour. (Or 'yours' for that matter) Love the wildfires. :P Bet you'd love to know where the first CX 350 is going to as well. ;)

Excellent news indeed. The capacity increase by swapping to the 77W is quite significant (40% as the 3-class 77G carries 340 pax compared to the 33G which carries 242 pax).

Seems that CX138 is quite popular as this flight is usually not available with promo/sale fares.

good for the aussie 777 pilots, as they will be able to fly down to see parents etc, instead of sub load basis

Wonder if they'll have a long slip or pax down/back?

Evening all,

Quote:

"Cathay Pacific will add a second Boeing 777 onto the Sydney-Hong Kong route from October 1 to cater for increased demand, especially for onwards flights to Europe."

"CX100 leaves Sydney at 3.40pm to reach Hong Kong at 10pm, and then turns around as CX101 to depart Hong Kong shortly before at midnight and arrive into Sydney at 12.15pm."

And according to the same report they are still looking to replace A330 with B77W to Tullamarine as well.

I wonder whether the time has come to review the bilateral agreement between Australia and Hong Kong so we can allow more flights and more operators, such as Virgin Australia, Jetstar and Hong Kong Airlines on this route in light of the recent air service agreement between Australia and China (PRC).

Yusef D 16th March 2015 02:47 AM

The bilateral agreement has plenty of room for VA, JQ or any Aus operator to fly those routes, it's only the HK side that is fully utilised. Until you see Aus-flagged operators fly as many services as CX then our side is under utilised.
