UA 840 cancelled.....again!
mumma mia...
how many times a month does this happen with a UA flight in & out of Sydney? |
There is a good thread on flyertalk.com which mentions pretty much every delay and cancellation of this flight. Though I did have to add today's in :)
A quick look at the sydneyairport.com.au flight arrivals and departures information shows that the flight didn't arrive into SYD on the 16th I will say the usual speil here, delays and cancellations happen with every airline, yes even EK and SQ. I keep a close eye on the AC flights in/out of SYD since the non-stop flights to YVR have been running since Mid Dec. So far 3 cancellations so one per month and with only 1 flight in/out of SYD per month. UA has 2 flights in and 2 flights out, rising to 3 in DEC/JAN period. So yes, yet another cancellation, and I can imagine that UA handled it in an OK manner! |
Oh as for your questions how many times a month, well usually not more than 1 full cancellation per month, but you can read that other thread and count yourself :D

e.g. late cancellations: flight cancelled after pax went through customs (so they have to come back out) x2 inbound flight (normally arrives around 6:10am in the morning) arrived Syd at 10pm (UA839) due a/c went Tech in LAX, crew ran out of hours. UA839 MEL-bound pax had to overnight at Sydney. |
Yes your correct there, but I tend to average out the delays/cancellations over a longer period :)
That being said I will NEVER fly UA out of Australia! |
is there a link to the FT thread?
|
no matter..I found it, the reason why I included again in the title is due to the fact that its becoming very regular now....
|
Well not that regular really, I don't usually defend UA as you would know, but heck even AC with brand new 777's have had 3 full cancellations in 4 months with only 1 flight per day. Added to that several delays of hours etc etc.
|
here is the incomplete list...

When the flight is cancelled late it's a nightmare for everyone involved. Some pax are very understanding (but some are not). Factor in the number of delays and how many hotel / taxi vouchers need to be given out for each cancellations, and these expense will pile up. Nevermind how much money / revenue they make on the route - delays / cancellations cost them dearly! |
