Avalon 2009 - Photo Thread
I was down at Avalon yesterday and some fortunate timing allowed me onboard the three Gulfstream corporates on display, the G550, G200 and G150.
The G550 is just pure luxury and comfort in the main cabin, after walking through a 2-3 meter bar area, there are four seats facing each other then a setting for four at the dinner table with serving buffet opposite. http://www.16right.com/MessageBoard/...-03-13_084.jpg The next section of the G550 cabin has two seats facing each other and a long lounge opposite. All the seats have a release on the armrest that allows the seat to move towards the centre of the cabin and then spin around in the other direction, you choose the confirguration that suits. http://www.16right.com/MessageBoard/...-03-13_085.jpg A little difficult with the focus in such a long narrow galley/bar area, however it gives an idea of the setup. The food preparation includes warming ovens etc. http://www.16right.com/MessageBoard/...-03-13_086.jpg The G550 cockpit layout is superb, with four large screens covering the normal instrumentation and navigation, a view from the under nose mounted video camera (the picture is enhanced for cloud and night operation), and an inset view from the tail mounted video camera on the far right screen. Viedo cameras can also be mounted on the main gear. http://www.16right.com/MessageBoard/...-03-13_088.jpg The G200 is a little more compact that the G550, but still retains all the comfort and luxury expected in these aircraft. At the rear of the aircraft there are two seats facing each other and a large lounge for three opposite. Toilet and wash room are at the rear. http://www.16right.com/MessageBoard/...-03-13_091.jpg A dining table can be extended out from a consealed side panel and you have the perfect dinner for two. http://www.16right.com/MessageBoard/...-03-13_092.jpg The G150 is slightly more compact again and has seating for four in the rear of the cabin, along with toilet and wash room. http://www.16right.com/MessageBoard/...-03-13_094.jpg Further forward there is lounge style seating for two with one seat opposite, and a small galley/bar area. http://www.16right.com/MessageBoard/...-03-13_095.jpg The G150 cockpit is compact and has four large screens that are quite deep . http://www.16right.com/MessageBoard/...-03-13_096.jpg |

Nice shots grahame.
Just wondering if you got a shot of the outside of the G550? Cheers Adam |
Adam, the G550 was the last aircraft in the line on taxiway Alpha before the active taxiway, Charlie, so the only shot available was into the sun and I didn't bother. You could probably have got one from the other side with a long lens, possibly from the walkway across taxiway Charlie.

This may be a silly question but what are the big silver pipes that go into most of the aircraft you shot Grahame? Is it some kind of fresh air hose??

Thanks for sharing Grahame, well done. One question what was the rego of the CX-750?

Phil, the 750 was VH-XCJ, City Jet, Tullamarine.
It got fairly warm out on the tarmac so most of the open aircraft has poratble air conditioning in place to keep it comfortable inside. |
Avalon 2009 - V Australia B777-300ER
V Australia had their first B777-300ER on display on Friday, and the aircraft was open for inspection all day. Like all B777s, Vh-VOZ looked very impressive close up from ground level, with its enoromous GE90-115BG02 engines and triple bogey main undercarriage.
The crew greeting everyone were very friendly and requested that you take off your shoes before entering the cabin. I suppose this might reduce the clean up afterwards, and they also had clear plastic carpet protection strips throughout. The front stairs are a long steep climb up to the starboard front door where you immediately enter the Business Class cabin. http://www.16right.com/MessageBoard/...-03-13_131.jpg There is plenty of room in Business Class however the seats do not appear to recline fully flat. http://www.16right.com/MessageBoard/...-03-13_147.jpg Only three rows in the forward Business Class cabin and the design is very modern. http://www.16right.com/MessageBoard/...-03-13_157.jpg Immediately behind the forward Business Class cabin is the famous Southern Cross bar. This area is the full width of the aircraft and the dome in the ceiling has star lighting with the Southern Cross predominating. I wonder how long the bar will stay in these financially challenging times, as you could fit at least another row of business seats (if not two). http://www.16right.com/MessageBoard/...-03-13_148.jpg Because of the bar area, there is another one row Business Class cabin before Premiumium Economy. This is a fairly unique cabin as the curtains can divide it off into three areas, quite private. http://www.16right.com/MessageBoard/...-03-13_159.jpg Premium Economy has purple leather seating and a little more leg room than economy. The IFE screen are also larger and the tray tables are in the arm rest rather than on the seat in front. Flexible personalised reading lights are fitted at the side of the head rest. http://www.16right.com/MessageBoard/...-03-13_161.jpg Premium Economy IFE Screens are a good size. http://www.16right.com/MessageBoard/...-03-13_119.jpg The forward and rear Economy Cabin has green fabric seats along the windows and red fabric on the centre seating. http://www.16right.com/MessageBoard/...-03-13_162.jpg IFE screens in the Economy Cabin are a good size and there is inter-seat communications. Tray tables are on the seat in front. http://www.16right.com/MessageBoard/...-03-13_167.jpg VH-VOZ Didgeree Blue http://www.16right.com/MessageBoard/...-03-13_171.jpg |
Avalon 2009 - Action
The weather on Friday morning was perfect, plenty of sunshine for most of the day, great to shoot the static displays. Once the display
got underway the weather slowly detoriated, becomming cloudy, hazy and finally very low cloud and some rain. RNZAF Boeing 757-200 did some very steep climbouts and turns. http://www.16Right.com/MessageBoard/...-03-13_207.jpg Mustang http://www.16Right.com/MessageBoard/...-03-13_225.jpg YAK http://www.16Right.com/MessageBoard/...-03-13_233.jpg Jet powered glider. The jet was developed from the APU used on some Russian aircraft, something like 240lbs of thrust. http://www.16Right.com/MessageBoard/...-03-13_237.jpg Great clider aerobatics. http://www.16Right.com/MessageBoard/...-03-13_262.jpg There goes and aileron .... http://www.16Right.com/MessageBoard/...-03-13_280.jpg There goes a trye. I Checked the hanger later on, the aireron was plastic covered foam and the tyre was an old inner tube. http://www.16Right.com/MessageBoard/...-03-13_292.jpg A nice landing on the car. The driver can activate two hooks that clamp the front tyres of the aircraft. http://www.16Right.com/MessageBoard/...-03-13_548.jpg The USAF C17, simply impressive. http://www.16Right.com/MessageBoard/...-03-13_315.jpg http://www.16Right.com/MessageBoard/...-03-13_318.jpg |
