Light aircraft accident at Bankstown

Radio reports that a light aircraft has ended up in a car park adjacent to the aerodrome.

Was attempting to land.

2 POB got out OK and did not need ambulance assistance to get to hospital.

VH-HCE taking off from one of the 11 runways at YSBK .... now upside down in a paddock about 100 metres from the 29C/R threshold.

Apparently they were doing practice glide approaches and had the engine failure on upwind.

A 152 with retractable nose gear....

Jason H 27th September 2011 10:28 PM

Saw HCE today over on the northern side of the airport, viewed from Marion Street. Right way up today but is missing its nose wheel and cowling. Wings looks surprisingly straightened out as opposed to those pictures of it on its roof.

Is the tarp just coincidentally draped over the registration, or do they have to cover it for the media?

Jakef 28th September 2011 08:38 AM

I'm assuming the tarp was for covering the rego to hide to operator, although that failed pretty quickly.
Probably would have been a great forced landing if the nose wheel didnt dig in (assuming that was what happened)
I just love pilots reaction when the media jammed the camera in his face and asked if he was scared, he said that he wasn't and walked off, only to have the reporter say something like "That was the pilot blah blah blah, No doubt still in shock from this terrifying incident"
