Being a bit pedantic but the aircraft that currently carries the President is deemed Air Force One...

And if you check the Government auction website and it states that it acted as AF2 and may have acted as AF1...

Reserve at $US50,000

Air Force One is simply a callsign. Any aircraft on earth can be Air Force One, if it's got the big guy onboard.

Just out of interest, does anyone have any idea how old the 2 (or 3?) current 747's that transport the US President etc. around, are?

Cheers

Mick

Hi Mick

There are two VC25s (B747-2GBs) in use.

Both were built in 1987 and delivered in 1990. Details are :

Serial No 82-8000 (con no 23824 line no 0679) delivered 23/08/90
Serial No 92-9000 (con no 23825 line no 0685) delivered 20/12/90

The USAF is looking to replace them about 2017 and the A380 may even be considered although there will be massive pressure to buy American !

Cheers

Bob

Only USAF aircraft.... :)

Given the state of the US Budget, perhaps the callsign may be up for sale soon. Kind of like personalised number plates. :D

Interesting fact that some of the old Ansett DC-9's actually ended up flying with the US Navy. I'm not sure if this was one of them.

Mmm....it's cheaper than buying a house. Might be able to park the car under the wing, set up an out door setting on top of the wing....;-). I trying to sound sill but I wouldn't mind.
