Police say they have received a report two people have died in a light plane crash in Hopeland, south of Perth.

They say the aircraft clipped trees before crashing on Yandegi Road about 11.00am.

Authorities are on their way to the scene.

AT least two people have died in a light plane crash at Hopeland, south of Perth, police say.

The plane crashed at the Serpentine Airstrip, landing upside on its roof, witnesses told Fairfax Radio.

"There is debris everywhere, it looks like the plane has disintegrated on impact," a witness said.

Police said at least two people were reported to have been killed in the crash, about 30km south of Perth.

Police said the plane clipped trees before crashing at the airstrip, which is privately owned.

Witnesses said it was believed to be a home-made aircraft owned by a local sports club.

Fire crews and paramedics are at the scene.
