NZ Bubble

AirNZ has significantly upped its timetable for Syd AKL from 16/4 with 24 odd services for the week, up from the current 4 and the reintroduction of A321 services. Wellington and Christchurch flights resume April 19 and Queenstown a day later. It’s expected the bubble will be confirmed at 4PM NZ time today.

Prime Minister Jacinta Ardern has announced that the Trans-Tasman bubble will commence from 11:59pm on 18 April, 2021 NZ time, when Australians will be free to travel to NZ with no mandatory quarantine.

Virgin have stated it won’t be until October for them, will be interesting to see who else jumps on the route.

Apart from Air NZ, the Qantas Group and VA from October, I can't see any other airlines operating trans Tasman for the foreseeable future. Part of the conditions are that all crew and passengers would have had to be in Australia or NZ for at least the previous 14 days prior to travel.

That would not be too much of an issue for EK and CX, both have large numbers of Aussie crews and in the case of CX have had crew bases in Oz recently.

Is this an opportunity for REX or too much for them to organise to go from domestic to international operations in a relatively short period of time with NZ certification etc? A daily flight to Auckland would sure get up AJs nose!
