Qantas to axe jobs at Gold Coast

Quote:

Qantas has announced it will axe 27 baggage handler employees at Gold Coast airport from June. The move comes as Jetstar decided not to renew Qantas’s baggage handling contract at Coolangatta.

But the carrier said that 14 employees are only on short term labour hire contracts and are not permanent employees of Qantas. The 13 staff not on short term labour hire contracts will be offered redeployment to Brisbane or a voluntary redundancy.

So technically no actual Qantas jobs are being axed.

I think Jetstar has had its fair share of Media Outbursts:p

I understand Oceania won the contract - they also handle DJ, JQNZ, NZ & Air Asia at OOL.

Most of the QF baggage handlers are casual or on contract. Just QF saving there backsides.
