A FOUR-MONTH-OLD baby girl has died while on board a Fijian plane which had to be diverted to Sydney due to the emergency.

NSW Police are preparing a brief for the coroner but are not treating the girl's death as suspicious.

A post mortem is being conducted at Sydney Children's Hospital, at Randwick where the girl's body has been taken.

The Fijian girl was one of several seriously ill children on board the Air Pacific flight flying from Fiji to India where the children were to receive specialist treatment.

A police spokesman said the flight had to be diverted to Sydney and landed at 11.45am.

"A report is being prepared for the NSW Coroner, the spokesman said.

Air Pacific is expected to release a statement shortly.

A sad case indeed... just wondered, since when did Air Pacific fly from Fiji to India? (nothing on the Air Pacific route map) I guess this was some sort of charter flight?

Joe.

I reckon that the ill children were going to India - not the plane (ie. transferring to another flight at some stage) My reasoning for this is that, in these circumstances, Sydney is an unsual diversion for a flight from Fiji to India.

Cheers
