Virgin Australia mid air drama

Flew on the Virgin Australia redeye flight from Perth to Sydney overnight.

Flight was fairly full and took off around 20-30 minutes late.

All was well until approach at Mascot this morning around 610am.

The plane (A330) approached via Bankstown and Cronulla, and just before Kurnell suddenly veerd off to the left and went around for a second go.

No worries... had a second shot, then veered off to the left again, this time climbing rapidly back out over the ocean, where we remained for over half an hour doing clock wise laps between Cronulla and Wollongong at around 5000 feet.

The captain announced that they were undertaking some routine matters (whatever that means) and at around 645am we finally descended and landed over Kurnell.

It turns out that the aircraft apparently had problems with the wing flaps.

I admit my stomach was starting to develop a little bit of a knot just prior to it finally coming in .. knowing the plane had a problem preventing it landing, combined with the pilots initially not knowing how to resolve it.

All, however, ended well.

I'm sure the pilots up front were quite competent and knew exactly what was going on and how to resolve it.
