LAN's current scheduled ground time in Sydney is 3h 55min (STA 0805 / STD 1155). Simply put, that's too long to occupy a contact position at T1 during the morning peak time. The aircraft would either need to arrive - tow away - tow back, or arrive remotely and tow to the terminal to depart, which it often does.
It's more cost effective to only tow the aircraft once, and it means another aircraft with a shorter ground time (and therefore cannot tow away & back in their allowed time) doesn't "miss out".
