I'm sure they are doing this to compete with Qantas, but for the amount of time in the air, I don't think I'll starve if I go without.
I wonder how many meals and coffee's are consumed at the airport terminals by people who are mainly looking for something to do while waiting for their plane.
On my most recent Qantas trip from Melbourne to Sydney, the meal was a chicken pie and a can of soft drink. At least I didn't have to buy a meal in the terminal knowing I was going to get a free feed on the plane.
3 different complimentary newspapers at the various departure gates meant I didn't have to buy a newspaper as well.
The train fare from Sydney Domestic to home more than cancelled out any savings on food, drinks and newspapers.
