It isn't just the police that are the problem. There's a number of security companies at the airport, too.
Police (AFP) are likely to be
outside the airport perimeter, while the private security companies are
airside.
Not that I have any complaint about police and security doing their job - I just like to know what's allowed and what isn't. It's a bit like spotting or photography from the staff car park if you're not staff.
