Default New Transatlantic speed record

A Norwegian 787-8 Dreamliner flew from JFK to LGW on Monday in a record time for a subsonic airliner of 5hr 13mins . It was aided by a 195kt tailwind and had a groundspeed of 667kts . The captain stated that he could have shaved a few more minutes off the record , but was slowed by turbulence at low level on climb out of JFK . However , the fastest ever crossing of the Atlantic by a passenger aircraft was in February 1996 , when Concorde flew from JFK to LHR in 2hrs 53mins .
