Interesting route choice. Is this for the FIFO market?

Looks like service will end in April. Sydney to Newcastle hasn't operated for a while either. Still love seeing the Jetstream in and out of Sydney to Taree and Mudgee.

Sydney made sense when Belmont was open, it’s marginal when the commuters have to drive to Willie.

Willytown is a 15-30min drive (give or take) from Newcastle.

Even with roadworks the drive from Syd - New is just over 2 hours (Xmas exp).

The trains range from 2hrs 30min and up depending on stops.

Even people flying out of Sydney prefer to catch an Airport Shuttle from Newcastle as it gives door to Airport service.

The bulk of the population live south of the NTL CBD, and as the new owners of belmont mentioned, the locals now prefer to drive!

"Mr Hibberd said it would be impractical to run a regular commuter service to Sydney as Aeropelican did up until 2006.

"They were putting through 100,000 passengers a year, 17 flights a day," he said.

"You know things have changed since then - it's actually not that difficult to drive to Sydney these days"

And when those Sydney flights took off From Williamtown and headed West and flew around in circles whenever there was bad weather in Sydney, man you would have to be sitting there thinking.... i should have just driven to Sydney......
