Default Air Asia axes Bali to SYD/MEL Flights

And another carrier exits the Bali market for many Australians, wonder if the ABC story helped precipitate the decline?

Quote:
AIR Asia has cancelled its flights from Melbourne and Sydney to Bali, ruining honeymoons and holiday plans for jetsetters who were heading overseas in just a few months.

The airline will end its Melbourne and Sydney service to Bali on September 1, with the flights only being launched last year.

Customers received text messages telling them their Indonesia AirAsia X flights had been cancelled but received no explanation why.

An AirAsia spokesman has since said the suspension of the services was “part of a network restructuring aimed at improving operations efficiencies”.

The airline has offered customers with flights after August 31 to move their booking to an earlier date subject to availability, a full refund, credit or a rerouted flight via Kuala Lumpur within 14 days of the original booking dependent on seat availability.

Possibly too much capacity on the route which would affect their yields.

Plenty of competition from quality airlines whose safety standards far superior than some of these being offered by some of these low cost carriers.

Mind you the lowest dollar fare on offer will attract those heading to Bali on any carrier without thought of other things like safety.

As an ex airline person I would NOT fly on some of these carriers.

If you've seen the population who fly LCCs to Bali, there's very little crossover with the ABC watching crowd, especially a small audience (but high quality IMHO) programme like Foreign Correspondent.

Good news for VA, whose DPS operations are a lot more marginal than JQ's.
