Default Delays in Sydney this Morning

Today, I arrived at the carpark near the old control tower for a morning's observation and immediately noticed long queues of planes waiting to take off from 34L. After a while it emerged that only propjets, B734's and some A320 were using 34R and then mainly for landings.
Was there a problem with 34R?
The delays were substantial as at one stage around 1030, there were 8 planes lined up to take off from 34L and another 3 waiting to cross 34L and join the queue.
Some planes would have been in the queue for at least 30'.
Reminded me of the old days before 34R was built!

There was a pavement failure on Taxiway Tango that precluded any aircraft getting to the 34R threshold for departure. It was used for arrivals only until the failure was patched. All departures 34L. When I was up in the mini-tower at the No2 Fire Station there was a queue of about 15 to depart. Would've made a good picture.

Regards.

Kurt, all acts of a miniature nature of course....

Model railways, model aircraft construction, midget throwing and on Thursday nights, scrapbooking.

Possibly even small decision-making

Amsy,

Its the Fire Control Centre.

Basically the Firey's main operations centre that monitors all goings on, on the field, visually and by monitoring all the frequencies. Also keeps tabs on the location of all the tenders when they're out and about.

Regards.
