Default Typhoon In HKG

A major typhoon is about to hit HKG. CX have stopped operations as of 2pm HKG time. The 2 QF flights from SYD to HKG are not departing until late tonight, if at all.

My daughter and several friends were booked to fly with CX from PER to HKG tonight then on to LHR and Malaga, Spain on Sunday.

They received advice this afternoon that their flight to HKG had been cancelled due to the Typhoon so after frantic work by CX and their travel agent, they are now leaving Perth at 0255 with Air Mauritius to Mauritius then onwards to London with British Airways - all of 6 kms longer according to the Great Circle Mapper.

The joys of parenthood and airline travel !!!!

Virgin Atlantic is loading in Sydney as I type. They look like going to Manilla.

A Cathay A330 is parked on Bay 75 and doesn't look like going anywhere.

Viva Macau is cancelled for tomorrow at this stage.

QF127 and QF187 both departed just prior to curfew.

Sounds like a fair trade-off there. Miss out on flying CX, but get to fly BA and also see the beautiful island of Mauritius. Also, having a 3am departure is a dream! I wish flights to USA left at that time from SYD.

Hi Shameel

Yep, I think so and she'll be happy to get another stamp in her passport !

But when I (half jokingly) asked her to keep a note of all the aircrat she saw, particularly at LHR, I just got the "look" that all females are very good at !!

PS - the 0255 departure wasn't too bad as at least we could watch the Olympics and see Steve Hooker win his gold.

Yesterday's QF188 was cancelled, while QF128 is estimated to departed HKG at 12:20pm today local time. Any further delays will mean a mad dash to beat the SYD curfew.

According to the Qantas website, QF128 arrived in SYD at 11:04pm, 4 minutes after the curfew.
