Default London Heathrow shut for 24 horus due to power failure

London's Heathrow Airport shut down due to 'significant power outage'

London's Heathrow Airport, one of the world's busiest, has announced a complete shutdown all day today due to a "significant power outage" as a result of a large fire nearby.
Heathrow Airport said in a statement on social media that all passengers were advised not to travel to the airport.
"To maintain the safety of our passengers and colleagues, Heathrow will be closed until 23h59 on 21 March," Heathrow Airport said in a statement on X. That is 11am AEDT on Saturday.

Even then the power company has said that there will be significant disruption to power in the next few days, which is to be expected. So they may need to bring in generators to get Heathrow open again.

There are approximately 185,000 substations in the UK, managed by National Grid Electricity Distribution . the one that supplies the main power to the UK biggest airport LHR burns down early morning , all sounds a bit suss to me . hopefully a full investigation will uncover what happened . I think the airport may also need to look at having a backup that works in these situatoins.
