Virgin697 - Low Fuel
This has been in the news of late, and this site has posted a video of the go-around as well...
6PR But a question from the pilots on the board - given how close he got to an actual landing, what would be possible reasons to go around at such a late stage? Could he have simply floated to far down the runway as opposed to crosswinds (or a combination of both)? Seems pretty critical to me, and the ATC seemed a little perplexed by the situation as well! Also of note, in the audio of the incident, there is a mention of 'UNITY795 ', could that be the same as in this post, or is there another callsign it is referring to? |

Worked fine for me in Firefox. Both the video of the go around and the audio.
For someone like me who is not a pilot, of any level or experience that sounded like a rather stressful situation yet very professionally handled. Cheers M |

This is most likely due to you not having Quicktime installed (the video is in a quicktime format). Firefox should prompt you to install the plug-in, if not you can just go to the Apple website and download it manually.

Untiy is Alliiance.
Floating a long way down is a reason for a go-around. |

Better to go around then to slam it down sideways and overshoot the runway. Also if I remember right the conditions were given as being gusty so he may have had the bad luck of getting a gust of crosswind during the flare pushing him off the runway.
