Default Defence fly pasts for white ribbon day 25/11

These flypasts are subject to variables including weather, air traffic control, and aircraft availability, and may be cancelled at short notice.

Canberra

At 7.30am, a pair of Army Black Hawks and a Navy Bell 429 helicopter will fly over Parliament House from north east to south west. Shortly after, an Air Force C-17A Globemaster III and C-130J Hercules, both adorned with White Ribbons, will fly over Old Parliament House from north west to south east.

The RAAF aircraft will fly no lower than 150 metres altitude, while the Army and Navy helicopters will be no lower than 60 metres.

Coogee

The C-17A and C-130J will flypast the Coogee Surf Life Saving Club at 8.10am, with the Black Hawks flying past at 8.20am. The aircraft will fly along the coast, approaching from the south.

Both the C-17A and C-130J will be at a minimum altitude of 150 metres, whilst the Black Hawks will fly at a minimum altitude of 60-metres. This event will coincide with a White Ribbon Walk from Randwick to Coogee Beach.

Colo High School

An Air Force C-130J Hercules will approach Colo High School from the east at 10.50am for its initial flypast, before returning to overfly from the south immediately after.

Each flypast will see the aircraft flying at a minimum altitude of 75 metres. The flypast will be in support of Colo High School’s White Ribbon Day Touch Football Challenge.

Australian Defence Force Academy
At 1.30pm, a pair of Army Black Hawk helicopters, joined by a Navy Bell 429 helicopter, will fly over the Parade Ground for the Australian Defence Force Academy, approaching from the south. The C-17A and C-130J will then fly over the Parade Ground, approaching from the east.

The RAAF aircraft will fly no lower than 150 metres altitude, while the Army and Navy helicopters will be no lower than 60 metres

Defence and White Ribbon Australia
The flypasts on November 25th are one of several Defence initiatives to support White Ribbon Australia, and their intent is to encourage communities to have a conversation or reflect on their attitudes towards the issue of male-led violence against women.
In 2015, the Australian Army, and Air Mobility Group (the arm of the Air Force which is responsible for airlift and air-to-air refuelling) were both awarded their White Ribbon Workplace Accreditation. The Royal Australian Navy has previously received this status, whilst the wider Royal Australian Air Force will embark upon an accreditation program in 2016.

The training we received under this accreditation program recognises the positive role that men play in preventing violence against women, and includes survey initiatives to assess a workforce’s attitudes.

White Ribbon’s Workplace Accreditation correlates with Air Force’s own cultural improvement initiatives, and bringing White Ribbon’s goals into the workplace enables employees at all levels to better understand men’s violence against women.

Here are a few shots from the ADF White Ribbon Day flypast over Coogee Beach this morning. I was shooting from the northern headland at Maroubra Beach,
and while the C-130J Hercules and Black Hawks were just off the coast, the C-17 made a slight left turn at Long Bay and tracked directly overhead my position
for Coogee.
