Can anyone confirm the reason for CASA grounding Tiger is because of 2 very recent incidents of descent below MSA (Minimum Safe Altitude)?

If that's the reason, grounding them is the best thing to happen, rather than an aircraft into the ground.

It sure is Mick, it relates to the following two events:

VH-VNG - 7 June 2011

VH-VNC - 30 June 2011

CASA issued a show cause notice to the airline in March 2011 and these two serious incidents gave reason to immediately step in and ground the airline.

Default Shame

Wow, what a shame! It would be a shame if tiger exited the market, cause 1. I havent flown them yet, just to prove they arent that bad, and 2. Airfares will rise which we do not want.

Jack are you serious...

I don't know about you but I'd rather have a tiny bit less competition then have a A320 with 180 passengers plough into the earth.

Agreed Jason!

Safety over the ability to get a cheap airfare.

It will be interesting to watch Virgin and Jetstar fares over the next few weeks.

Most of Tigers A320's are up against the fence with engine covers on them at John Holland today, aka like another airline we all knew!

Kudos to Jetstar not only for their swift response and special fares, but even to the extent of adding extra flights to the key leisure routes.
