This was the same aircraft that tipped on to its tail at Sydney in 2002 when with Korean Airlines as HL-7372.

A gentleman at the old control tower carpark commented this a/c had not long started ops with this company, is that correct?

8 Days in service with them and then destroyed in a crash? Is there any speculation as to what caused the crash? I understand there was a tail strike but that can be overcome.

Apparently China has banned all Chinese registered MD11s from flying.
Unconfirmed reports... |

Back in 1999 MD-11 HL-7373 of Korean Airlines also crashed on take off from Shanghai, which was the sister ship to this one which was ex HL-7372 of Korean Airlines.

So do I - I have the photos of the other side of that one - where the pallet loader was unloading a vehicle from the forward main deck cargo door and the aircraft nosed up because there was no tail jack in place.
MD11 and vehicle suffered similar damage - both were panel damaged, however the car was terminal! |

I believe there is no provision for a tail jack on the MD-11. Either nose weights are used, or as at Sydney currently, there is nose to ground tethering available.
