2 Russian registered Robinson R66 helo's (RA-06360 and RA-06345) are in town at present, arriving from Lord Howe Island after this afternoon's storm cells passed through. They originated in Moscow and had flown all the way to New Zealand.

Their journey can be found on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/#!/ThereAndBackAgainFlight

The Russian's just departed to the north. Apparently they'll be going as far south as Flinders Island in the coming days. Both helo's are fitted with auxillary tanks and hold nearly 600 litres of Jet A1.

And here's other webpages outlining their journey. http://thereandbackagain.ru/en/profile or if you read Russian (don't we all?) www.vertolet.ru

A formation of four FA-18 Hornets just tracked coastal southbound along the Northern beaches, did an orbit off Narrabeen, then continued south. A single aircraft then tracked coastal northbound at around 500ft.

A great sight, and thundering sound effects.

They were for Gough Whitlam's memorial service. I understand they were going to fly a 'Missing Man' formation over the city.

I think that would have been the missing man formation for Gough Whitlam's memorial service.

Sydney Storm Front

Looks like VH-YQS QF1508 HBA-SYD has diverted back to Canberra after reaching coastal off Cronulla.

VH-TGG, QF533, QF863 and QF925 all holding to the north. Joined by QL585 around 1615.

VH-EBJ operating JQ4 from Honolulu has tracked down to Nowra and entered an orbit.

VH-EBO QF642, VH-YIM VA853 and VH-VXK QF442 are all orbiting north of Canberra.

Looks like QF925 might have given up, seems to be heading south to either CBR or MEL?

Correction: have things cleared up? JQ4 descending and heading up towards SYD, as are some of the others? QF925 may be doing the same thing?
