Default London Gatwick Airport closed due to multiple drones within its airspace...

A new level of utter stupidity...

Source 9 News

Quote:
Passengers flying in and out of London Gatwick will face at least another 24 hours of disruption after several drone sightings forced Britain's second busiest airport to shut its runway, causing delays to thousands of Christmas travellers.

Authorities at Gatwick halted flights at about 9pm local time on Wednesday after two drones were spotted flying near its airfield.

Over 20 police units were searching for the drone operators on Thursday, when the airport had expected to handle around 115,000 passengers.

You wonder whether it is an deliberate attempt to dispute the airport, or just stupid people.
Image the costs incurred by the airport, airlines and the passengers as a result.

LGW is reportedly planning to widen its ‘emergency runway’ so it can be used as a ‘genuine’ second runway. If not be surprised if this is some overbaked protest against the second runway and the additional flights it would surely attract.

Tonight's news mentioned (and not corfirmed) that an enviro greenie group maybe involved.

Also Army snipers are positioned around the airport to attempt to shoot down the drone.
