Yep, have had a bit of a play on the JQ website and it does appear its just a tech stop, so should be OK from that point of view I guess. Also looks like it will be a full flight now.

Will make for an interesting flight thats for sure. I don't normally do trip reports but I just might have to do a couple for you all.

Cheers

M

Unless Darwin has changed since last time I went through there (which was 3 years now) they have a seperate international area. So no reason why the couldn't off load you into the international section then back on again without having to clear customs.

BTW have the flight numbers changed or just the a/c. If just the a/c you might find you do not even have to get off the a/c.

You will definately need to re-check the bags on the return sector. Immigration and Customs is all done in DRW. Bags are obviously checked all the way through when departing SYD.

Cheers,
Dave.

That's incorrect. The flight will arrive in Sydney at the international terminal and immigration and customs will be done in Sydney. There is only a 30 minute layover in Darwin, definitely not enough time for everyone to deplane, go through immigration and customs and then reboard the plane.

Would there even be any deplaning happening. 30 minutes wouldn't be much time to get everyone off and back on again!

Unlike the JQ SYD-DRW-SGN vv flights where the SYD-DRW legs arrive and depart from domestic gates (SYD from T2, DRW from Gate 5 which can exit into the domestic lounge or international lounge depending on how they set the pathway from the aerobridge), the SYD-DRW-DPS vv flights are all international sectors.

I recently flew on the SIN-DRW leg of JQ's SIN-DRW-CNS flight, where DRW-CNS was an international sector, so it is a similar situation to this DPS example.

When arriving in DRW, all passengers disembarked, and those alighting in DRW and/or transferring to different domestic flights went through a "Darwin" walkway and proceeded through customs and quarantine (this is what I did). Those continuing on to CNS on the same flight went through a "Cairns" walkway for transit, security check and reboarding (similar procedure to the old JQ KIX-BNE-SYD for the transit between BNE and SYD).

Importantly, for passengers just transitting in DRW to CNS from SIN, they couldn't take through liquids above the prescribed carry on 100ml quantities in plastic bags, etc. (ie duty free liquor bought airside in SIN), but those alighting in DRW could. So be careful buying liquids in DPS airside as you are continuing to SYD. Your luggage should also be able to be checked through to SYD from DPS.

Things may be different however for the SYD-DRW-DPS vv flights in question as DRW appears to just be a tech stop rather than a transit stop.

Hope this helps.

Wow! A lot happened yesterday, I read your post Andrew, looked at the flight times saw the very short time in DRW relaised that it had to a be a tech stop only and forgot about the post!

Looking forward to the trip now, will be something different.

Thanks for your help.

Cheers
