Default Embraer KC-390 Visits Sydney

Originally scheduled for a 1350 arrival from Auckland, a late departure saw Embraer KC390 PT-ZNJ arrive at 1659, and after the long taxi from 16L, it was after sunset when they parked on DOM 6 Bay 99.

Recently on display at the Paris Air Show, PT-ZNJ is operated by the Brazilian Air Force and has Embraer Serial No. 39000002

KC-390 Overnight Stay

After a sunset arrival yesterday, it was nice to catch up with the KC-390 again in some warm sunlight.

Departure was scheduled for 1000L, however they were running a little late and departed at 1036L for Darwin. Takeoff distance was to be 2000m, but it was more like 1600m, with a fairly flat climb out.

The KC-390 is powered by 2 x IAE V2500-E5 turbofans, has a max payload of 23.6t, with 23t of fuel, standard inflight refueling capability, and can act as a re-fueler itself. There is still test equipment on board this aircraft, along with 20 seats and six stretchers (spare tyres are in the rear).

Thanks for the pics Graham. I'd just jumped off a train at Sydenham at 1657 and assumed it was a C-17, but was pretty excited when I checked flightradar!

The RNZAF are looking at it as a possible replacement for their fleet of C-130's.

Didn't waste their time with the RAAF, just passing thru.

Also some interest in the Asia-Pacific area after it left Oz.
